‘Spree’ Review: A Desperate Rideshare Driver Kills His Customers for the ‘Gram [Sundance 2020]
To quote Broken Lizard’s 2001 stoner comedy Super Troopers, “desperation is a stinky cologne,” – and Kurt Kunkle (Joe Keery) is absolutely drenched in it. After runing the gamut on Stranger Things from a despicable jock to an affable cool kid, Keery takes a hard left turn in a new techno-horror thriller called Spree as Kurt, […]

Tacoma Fd Season 2: What To Expect

Daniel Kurland Oct 11, 2019

We spoke with the cast of Tacoma Fd at Nycc about how they craft their comedy and what to expect in the show’s second season.

For over a decade the Broken Lizard comedy troupe has been creating inventive comedies that have resonated with audiences. Their talents have typically been reserved for feature films, but the group has found new ground with their television show, Tacoma Fd. The TruTV comedy series looks at a ragtag group of firefighters and conjures the same infectious, affable energy that fuels their movies. At first glance the show may just look like a minor pivot away from the antics of Super Troopers, but there’s a real heart to Tacoma Fd that helps ground the outlandish exploits of this fire department.

Last year Tacoma Fd grew to be one of TruTV’s most popular comedies and the cast and crew are

Super Troopers 3 And More On The Horizon For Broken Lizard

Daniel Kurland Oct 11, 2019

We caught up with Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme and discuss what’s ahead for their feature film slate.

Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe have forged a strong name for themselves in the comedy world. The collective started as a NYC-based sketch group, but slowly parlayed their talents to the big screen. Many people still regard Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers to be their strongest feature, but over the years they’ve put out a number of memorable, irreverent comedies like Beerfest and Club Dread. Lemme and Heffernan’s latest efforts have taken them over to television with TruTV’s Tacoma Fd. The hilarious firefighter series is well in production on their second season, but just because they’ve found success on TV doesn’t mean that they’ve turned their backs on cinema. Quite the contrary.

‘Tacoma Fd’ Comedy Series Renewed For Season 2 By TruTV

  • Deadline
WarnerMedia’s truTV has given a 13-episode Season 2 order to breakout freshman scripted comedy Tacoma Fd, from co-creators and stars Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme of the Super Troopers movie franchise.

Tacoma Fd, which wrapped its Season 1 run a couple of weeks ago, has been a solid ratings performer with steady deliveries and big DVR bumps. After a respectable premiere behind Impractical Jokers, the series was able to accomplish the rare feat of growing in Week 2 (in the 18-34 demo) and increasing its 18-49 lead-in retention from 73% to 87%. Tacoma Fd launched as the No. 1 new cable comedy among young adults and has ranked among cable’s top 5 scripted comedies.

This is the second scripted series renewal at TruTV this week, joining I’m Sorry, picked up for Season 3, as the WarnerMedia network is solidifying its programming lineup following the recent executive restructuring that saw most of its senior programming team

How Tacoma Fd Quietly Became One of the Year's Best Comedies

Andrew Husband Jun 14, 2019

In the increasingly crowded field of television comedy, Tacoma Fd offers some comfort food.

Higher quantity never guarantees better quality, but thanks to “Peak TV,” there are more good options on television to choose from than ever before. This is especially true of the comedy genre, which has witnessed an explosion of unique programming. From returning favorites like Fleabag and Brooklyn Nine-Nine to acclaimed newcomers like The Other Two and Russian Doll, viewers could watch one episode every night for a year and still not finish it all.

Unfortunately, this results in the premature demise of many, many shows, as people just aren’t able to keep up, resulting in poor ratings. Hopefully, this isn’t going to be the case for truTV’s Tacoma Fd, which has managed to find and maintain a small, devoted niche audience. But even at a smaller network like truTV, a

Ranking The Top Five Broken Lizard Movies of All-Time

The five-man comedy group known as Broken Lizard was actually known informally at one point as Charred Goosebeak, which doesn’t seem to carry the same weight or feel of the name that they finally went with. But the five men responsible for this group all went to college together and after the last of them graduated, one failed and got out early, they formed up and created their own brand. Initially they went on to create their own sketches and sought to become known as one might expect, but once they came out with Super Troopers the rest is kind

The Fourth Wall Podcast: Tacoma Fd Isn’t Super Troopers For Firefighters

Andrew Husband May 24, 2019

Tacoma Fd showrunners Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme wanted to create a new comedy that was as serious as it was silly.

Along with Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske, Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme are best known for their work with the Broken Lizard comedy troupe. The group is responsible for a string of comedy films in the 2000s, like the first Super Troopers and Beerfest, that shaped American comedic sensibilities at the movies for a decade.

With their original truTV series Tacoma Fd, however, Heffernan and Lemme wanted to do something a little different. The show premiered in late March and gradually, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, gained a niche following that has resulted in some pretty good ratings for the network. Ahead of the season finale next Thursday, the longtime friends and collaborators spoke to Den of Geek about the inspiration for the series,
