Storyline

One morning, Donkey Kong awakes to find that his entire banana hoard has been stolen. He also finds that his friend Diddy has been stuffed into a barrel. Donkey rescues Diddy and together they go off to find who did this. Who actually did the deed was King K. Rool, king of the Kremling army, the terror of Donkey Kong Country. Donkey and Diddy must brave mines, forests, tree tops, lakes, factories, caves, glaciers, ancient ruins, and a pirate ship, and get help from their friends Rambi the Rhinocerous, Enguarde the Swordfish, Winky the Frog, Expresso the Ostrich, and Squawks the Parrot. Using teamwork, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong must battle off furious foes like Klump the Kremling army general, Krusha the Arnold Schwarze-Kremling, Klap Trap (though he's small he's got a mean jaw), Krash the mine cart driving Kremling (who drives like a maniac on the mine tracks so watch out!), Croctopus the evil being in the lakes, Gnawty the beaver, and the evil King K. Rool himself. Along the way, ... Written by Dylan Self <robocoptng986127@aol.com>

Trivia

Diddy Kong was originally going to be re-imagined version of Donkey Kong Junior. Nintendo however felt it would be too much of a departure from their character in Donkey Kong Junior (1982) and urged developers to make Diddy as an original new character. See more »

Goofs

It is not possible for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to breathe underwater while scuba diving without oxygen tanks as they are mammals. If Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong tried this in real life, they would both drown. See more »

User Reviews

Best game for the Super Nintendo!
8 July 2000 | by action-6See all my reviews

Donkey Kong Country is a really classic game. Everybody who saw it back in 1994 thought that this was a game for Nintendo`s new 64-bit system(Nintendo 64). But Donkey Kong Country was a game for the 16-bit Super Nintendo(Super Famicom in Japan). The extremely good graphics that blew everybody away were possible to do on a SNES(short for Super Nintendo Entertainment System) because the developers discovered a new technique to make SNES-games(the Advanced-Computer-Modelling technique). The graphics are impressive, even by today`s standard. But DKC didn`t become a classic just because it looked lush, it also had gameplay and atmosphere to die for. The levels are highly detailed, there are many of them and the excellent music makes for one he%& of an adventure. The game can be extremely frustrating, and you`ll throw away the control and swear like he¤%, but the game is really worth the bother, so you`ll soon pick up the controller again for one more go. I prefer this to Donkey Kong 64 on the N64. DKC is SO GOOD!! 10/10
