The film s success spawned a slew of remakes, reimaginations and imitators, but none could quite boast the power of Nakata s original masterpiece, which melded traditional Japanese folklore with contemporary anxieties about the spread of technology.

A group of teenage friends are found dead, their bodies grotesquely contorted, their faces twisted in terror. Bharat Nalluri To Direct ‘We Interrupt This Program’ On Chaotic Orson Welles’ ‘War Of The Worlds’ Broadcast

  • Deadline
Bharat Nalluri To Direct ‘We Interrupt This Program’ On Chaotic Orson Welles’ ‘War Of The Worlds’ Broadcast
Exclusive: Bharat Nalluri is attached to direct We Interrupt This Program, a drama financed by Echo Lake Entertainment that focuses on the internal battles between Orson Welles and producer John Houseman that nearly derailed the shocking radio broadcast of War of the Worlds in 1938. Without identifying they were performing a sci-fi play, the broadcast panicked listeners into believing an alien invasion was taking place.

Sean Sorensen wrote the spec script, and Echo Lake’s Doug Mankoff and Andy Spaulding are producing with the writer.

The script explores two dramas unfolding on the night of October 30, 1938. The most well-known is the infamous radio broadcast, where the specter of invading aliens sent shockwaves of panic rippling across America. But even more chaos was taking place behind the scenes because of the stormy relationship between broadcast producer Houseman and Welles, its petulant director and star, that nearly derailed the most influential radio broadcast in history.

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's Fast & Furious Spinoff Just Found Its Sexy Villain

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's Fast & Furious Spinoff Just Found Its Sexy Villain
The Fast & Furious franchise is officially getting a spinoff - and no, it's not a sequel to Tokyo Drift. The chemistry between Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw characters in the last action film, Fate of the Furious, was enough to inspire Universal to center a new movie around the pair's antics. Shaw, a former villain with a heart of gold, and Hobbs, a hardass Us Diplomatic Security Agent, will presumably team up without Dom Toretto's (Vin Diesel) family of vehicle-savvy criminals to save the world from Charlize Theron's zombie cars.

On April 12 Entertainment Weekly revealed that the film had found a director, and he couldn't be a better fit: David Leitch. In addition to helming Deadpool 2, the former stunt double/coordinator also directed Atomic Blonde and codirected John Wick, all of which feature elaborate action sequences. Knowing Hobbs and Shaw - which

The Man Who Invented Christmas movie review: but would Charles Dickens approve?

MaryAnn’s quick take… There’s charm and wit in its fanciful depiction of the creative process, but the film downplays the social activism that Dickens fully embraced in his work. I’m “biast” (pro): love Dickens and A Christmas Carol

I’m “biast” (con): haven’t been the biggest fan of Dan Stevens

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Did Charles Dickens really invent our modern observance of Christmas? Well… he certainly contributed to it, with his beloved 1843 novella A Christmas Carol bringing to it a spirit of family celebration and togetherness and moving the holiday away from its religious grounding to a more secular one focused on ecumenical kindness and generosity. But we also have Prince Albert to thank, for importing his German Yuletide customs — such as evergreens and Christmas trees — to England when he married

Movie Review – The Gatehouse (2016)

The Gatehouse, 2016.

Directed by Martin Gooch.

Starring Scarlett Rayner, Simeon Willis, Linal Haft, Paul Freeman, Hannah Waddingham, Alix Wilton Regan, and Melissa Knatchbull.

Synopsis:

Precocious ten-year old Eternity (Scarlett Rayner) lives in a gatehouse at the edge of an ancient forest with her father (Simeon Willis). She likes to dig for buried treasure in the woods, but one day she digs up something she shouldn’t and the forest wants it back.

You wait for one genre film about unwitting victims being picked off in the woods, and you get forests worth of flicks all at once. Following on from Blair Witch, The Woods, and the film with which this shares the closest DNA, in idea if not execution, Corin Hardy’s The Hallows, we get this micro-budgeted tale of schlocky horror.

Martin Gooch’s The Gatehouse is a drinking game’s worth of horror tropes, thrown together as a tonally haphazard monster mash.
