The story takes place circa 1860s, in the stagecoach and buckboard era, but leading lady Iris Meredith's clothes and hairstyles are all strictly 1938, including knee length skirts and high heel shoes, well over half a century before their time.

Errors in geography 

If the title (South of Arizona) were taken literally, the story would be taking place in Mexico, which it obviously is not.
