Factual errors

Marcia Wallace is not credited in this episode even though she had a speaking part during the inquest. There must have been a mix up during production as she is credited in the first Columbo episode "Murder By The Book" even though she doesn't appear in that one.

Miscellaneous

Leslie Nielson says "She didn't kill anyone. It was an accident." He should have said "She didn't murder anyone. It was an accident." She did "kill", accident or not.

Plot holes

Much is made of a "hidden key in a flower pot". Columbo has to stand on a tall step ladder to retrieve the pot and look for where the key had been. No-one would hide a key in such a place.

Spoilers

The goof item below may give away important plot points.

Plot holes

While talking to Peter in the bar, Columbo says that Peter mentioned something the night of the murder that would prove Beth was guilty. We learn that Columbo is referring to the fact the shots were fired before the alarm was sounding. However, in the interview the night of the murder, the only mention Peter makes of the alarm is when he agrees with the officer that it "was sounding" - but he does not give any indication as to the order of the alarm and the shots.
