Commendable hard-boiled crime program.
22 January 2004 | by EyeAskanceSee all my reviews

A very small film which was born unto immediate obscurity, WHO KILLED MARY WHAT'S HER NAME? deserves to be exhumed from the graveyard of forgotten movies and given a second look. Red Buttons is surprisingly good in his out-of-character role as a decent Joe Anyman who's trying to unravel the mystery of a rundown neighborhood hooker who's turned up murdered, a case to which the authorities have been entirely unresponsive. The various creatures of the street all knew who she was, mostly as just a nameless, faceless movement in a sideways glance.

What comes to light in this film is the difficult truth that a specific demographic in this country simply doesn't matter, even to each other...a sad look at an urban reality, and despite the visible limitations of tight financing, this is a worthy minor picture.
