Did You Know?
The movie began filming with Richard Burton
in the lead. Director Tony Richardson
and Burton had had a huge success with Look Back in Anger
(1959), and this was to be their first movie together since. This was at the height of his fame, (he and Liz Taylor were probably the most photographed couple in the world) but he was constantly late on set. A furious Richardson who in the meantime had won an Oscar for Tom Jones
(1963), confronted him over this and his poor attitude. A huge row ensued and Richardson fired Burton, and stormed off. It was only then that he remembered that he was on the Taylor- Burton's luxury yacht on the Thames. A humbled Richardson was forced to go back in and ask for someone to row him back ashore. See more
