Robert De Niro could become 3rd SAG life achievement winner to be nominated in the same year

With the recent announcement that he would receive this year’s life achievement award by the Screen Actors Guild, Robert De Niro could add another honor to the long list of the ones he already has. If he were to get nominated for Best Film Actor for Netflix’s “The Irishman” or for the ensemble prize for “The Irishman” or “Joker,” De Niro would become the third performer to receive the life achievement prize and be nominated at the guild in the same year.

The first time this happened was 15 years ago when James Garner was nominated for his supporting role in “The Notebook” the same year he was awarded the life achievement honor. Garner would lose the acting prize to eventual Oscar winner Morgan Freeman for “Million Dollar Baby,” and would be snubbed at the Oscars.
