RoboCop Returns was first announced back in July of last year and would have been a direct sequel to Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 action sci-fi classic, with Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate) rewriting an old script from the late 80s by original RoboCop writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner.

Blomkamp had been keen to bring back Peter Weller as the former Alex Murphy, although Weller reportedly turned down the opportunity to reprise the role for the first time since 1990’s RoboCop 2.
