Roman Reigns Announces His Return to WWE

Mike McMahon Feb 26, 2019

Reigns is returning to WWE after announcing his leukemia is in remission ...

Roman Reigns returned to WWE last night on Monday Night Raw, announcing that his leukemia was in remission and "the Big Dog is back."

Reigns opened last night's show to a huge ovation from the live crowd in Atlantic. Reigns relinquished the WWE Universal Championship this past October after announcing on Raw that his leukemia had returned after he had been in remission for 11 years. Reigns announced last night that he was in remission again, and hinted at a return to the ring, but no specifics were given.

It makes sense that Reigns could be inserted into the title picture, especially given that he was the champion when he left the company to battle the disease. Right now, his former Shield mate, Seth Rollins, is slated to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35 in New York.

Opinionated: The state of Impact Wrestling

  • Nerdly
A new year marks a new column for Nerdly… Opinionated. Where we give you our thoughts on everything and anything geeky and nerdy. First up is Phil’s thoughts on Impact Wrestling.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve personally written anything about pro-wrestling, between managing the site and writing movie reviews I’ve found little time to discuss wrestling. That’s not to say I haven’t been keeping up with everything on WWE’s programming: Raw, Smackdown and Nxt; as well as, to a lesser extent, UK promotions (via Powerbomb.tv) and… Impact Wrestling.

Yes, Impact Wrestling. A programme that, at one time, back in the pre-Hogan era and later into the Hogan era, I preferred to the output of Vince McMahon and co. Back in those days the matches seemed more exciting, the feuds seemed more impactful (pardon the pun) and the overall product seemed

Wrestling Daily News Roundup – Broken Matt On His Way to the WWE?, Stable Name for Paige’s Group Revealed, Drew McIntyre Update, Women’s Elimination Chamber Match?

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Broken Matt Finally on his Way to the WWE?

Ever since making his surprise return to the WWE at Wrestlemania this year, fans have been desperate to see Matt Hardy embrace his stupidly popular ‘Broken’ gimmick. The gimmick was a huge success for Hardy in Tna and helped the company gain a huge following this time last year.

When Hardy left the company, however, Tna claimed that they held the copyright to the gimmick, and Matt and the brand have been locked in a legal war ever since. Well, it finally looks as though we are going to see a breakthrough. According to PWInsider, there has been a huge development. Apparently, on December 19th, the trademark will be published for opposition, giving any party 30 days the chance to seize the gimmick for themselves. With Tna currently at a bit of a loose end,

Ranking All 17 Money in the Bank Cash-Ins From Worst to Best

Liam Hoofe takes a look at all 17 previous Money in the Bank cash-ins and ranks them from worst to best…

This Sunday night the WWE will crown their 18th Mr. Money in the Bank. Since the debut of the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21, the bout has given us 17 victors, 15 of which have gone on to win world titles- a good omen for whoever walks away the winner this Sunday night.

Ever since the first cash-in at New Year’s Revolution 2006, the WWE have tried to surprise fans and come up with different and innovative ways to deploy the gimmick, the majority of which have been successful.

Not all cash-ins are created equal however and some of them have not quite worked out as planned. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at each Money in the Bank cash in and rank them,

John Cena ‘Free Agent’ status explained, ex-tna stars to WWE – WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

Roman Reigns Summerslam Announcement

Usually Roman Reigns not appearing on an episode of Monday Night Raw would be seen as a positive for anti-Big Dawg fans. Rather forebodingly for them, however, a promo package ran in his place, advertising his Summerslam announcement for the following week’s show.

The announcement must be pretty substantial, as WWE see fit to reveal it eight weeks before Summerslam’s 20th August date, and three weeks before Raw’s next pay-per-view – which is still called Great Balls of Fire.

Roman doesn’t currently have a storyline feud coming out of Extreme Rules, and this ‘announcement’ could be to set up his next program over the coming months. Whatever the announcement is, Roman is already warning that it’s probably going to annoy us:

Not everyone is going to like what I say,

WWE star takes shot at Cm Punk, WWE signing ex-tna stars? – WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

After Raw broke records this week, setting its lowest non-holiday, non-football season viewership number for 20 years, it was up to Smackdown to get a record of its own. Hopefully the good kind.

Thankfully, the blue brand was up from last week’s lowest rating of 2017 so far, pulling in an extra 50,000 viewers to make it 2.35 million.

Far more important, of course, are your ratings. 62% of you thought it was Smack Bang in the Middle, while 23% thought it slightly better at SmackTastic.

In a rather obvious announcement, given the four weeks of Dolph Ziggler and Shinsuke Nakamura’s awkward in-ring segments, a match between the two has been confirmed for next Sunday’s Backlash pay-per-view. Ziggler talked about the match to Generic WWE Interviewer No.

Real reason behind Jinder Mahal Smackdown push? Ex Tna stars sign with WWE – WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

Now that he’s the biggest babyface in the company – after beating up an ambulance, a wrestling ring and, most importantly, Roman Reigns – it’s about time WWE made Braun Strowman some official merchandise. His first t-shirt is now on WWE Shop, with a simple black and white ‘Monster Among Us’ slogan on the front and Braun on the back.

Which is so cool, I might actually buy a new wrestling t-shirt. But I would have much preferred ‘I’M Not Finished With You’ on the front, and ‘Your Tears Hydrate Me’ on the back.

WWE’s handling of Strowman has arguably been the company’s most effective piece of character building in years. He’s somehow both Raw’s top heel and face. Now Smackdown is trying to create a new top star in response: No Carbs Jinder Mahal.

Randy Orton shoots on Wrestlemania match, ex-wwe star returns on Nxt | WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw unfortunately wasn’t just newsworthy for its Superstar Shake Up trades. The show also included several highly dangerous moves.

No, not Jinder Mahal reportedly concussing Finn Balor with a forearm strike, nor Nia Jax dropping Charlotte on her head, but Braun Strowman deadlifting an ambulance with Roman Reigns inside.

In a totally appropriate response, WWE fan Jennifer Kuchler has started an online petition to ‘Fire Braun Strowman!’.

“To the WWE we the WWE Universe are not please with Strowman’s Actions tonight on Raw following his brutal attack on Roman Reigns…If this is what you call Entertainment You Failed Miserably…out of everything that I have seen happen this was by far the absolute Worst.”

Braun Stowman sensitively replied on Twitter:

I do what I want when

Seven More Ex-Superstars WWE Should Sign

Liam Hoofe takes a look at seven other ex-superstars the WWE should consider signing…

With Kurt Angle and The Hardy Boyz having returned to the WWE this past week, and Drew McIntyre re-signing with the company too, it would appear as though the WWE is entering a new era of rehiring old superstars to add to their current roster.

Since last year’s brand split we have also seen the return of Curt Hawkins, Shelton Benjamin (well, not yet), Jinder Mahal and of course, Goldberg. The company’s willingness to reach out to old stars has opened the door to many possible returns and here is a look at seven other stars the company should consider reaching out to.

Rey Mysterio

With WWE’s cruiserweight division finally beginning to get some momentum behind it, there would be no better time to add some real star power to the division than now.

Possible Spoiler Appearance For Wrestlemania *Updated*

Wrestlemania is upon us today and the WWE loves to go all out with surprises for their audience. Last night at Nxt: Takeover Orlando for example, fans were shocked to see Drew McIntyre make his return to the WWE after a long stay at Impact Wrestling. Drew was the first member of the Impact Wrestling roster that left the company after Anthem purchased that company. Soon to follow were Matt and Jeff Hardy. The Hardy's made their way to Ring of Honor for what has ended up being a short stay. Last night at Supercard of Honor, the Hardy's faced off against The Young Bucks and lost the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championships to them in an amazing ladder match. People have speculated that the Hardy's stay in Ring of Honor would be a short one.

If the tweet above is to be believed, that appears to be the case.

Matt & Jeff Hardy sign with Roh, loads of Tna star returns

After leaving Tna Impact Wrestling last Monday, The Broken Hardys became professional wrestling’s hottest free agents…until Jack Swagger requested his WWE release, of course. With Jeff Hardy saying in past interviews that he wants to end his career in WWE, and Matt continuingly teasing a return to the company by tweeting Sasha Banks and Bray Wyatt, it seemed as though the brothers were on their way back to Vince McMahon. Especially when Pro Wrestling Sheet reported on Friday that “Broken Matt and Jeff Hardy have begun preliminary talks with WWE about a return to the company” and that “right now things are looking good.”

That ‘right now’ turned out to be about 24 hours.

The following night, at Ring of Honor’s Manhattan Mayhem VI show, the Broken Hardys shockingly turned up after The Young Bucks retained their tag team titles against Lio Rush and Jay White. The Bucks

Tna is dead, now ‘Impact Wrestling’! Paige backstage at Tna tapings…

Yesterday’s episode of Impact Wrestling had Bobby Lashley defeat Josh Barnett to retain his World Heavyweight Championship, and we saw the last Tna appearances for The Broken Hardys, Drew Galloway and Jade. But the real news was happening in the non pre-taped version of the Impact Zone. i.e. the live, real-time version.

The episode broadcast last night was the final instalment from Tna’s January tapings. From next Thursday onwards, Jeff Jarrett’s new regime – and by ‘new’, I mean, the regime from about five years ago being brought back – will kickstart their era on television. An era that started filming last night.

Because this is about yet-to-be broadcast footage, spoiler warning for the next month-or-so of Impact Wrestling.

First up, the biggest one – former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio made his Tna debut at the TV Tapings, going by his non-WWE name Alberto El Patron. Mr

Jeff Hardy to WWE & Matt Hardy to New Japan? Massive changes at Tna…

A lot has gone down in Tna over the last few weeks. Original founder Jeff Jarrett has officially regained control of the promotion after being brought back in by the new owners Anthem Sports and Entertainment. Jarrett, in turn, has changed-up the backstage team, replacing previous Head of Creative John Gaburick with his guy Dutch Mantell – the former Zeb Colter in WWE. With the first batch of TV tapings from the new regime set to start tonight, Tna’s future direction will finally be unveiled.

And it’s going to be pretty different.

In just this week alone, top acts Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis, former World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway, current Tag Team Champions Matt and Jeff Hardy – and now the latest, former Knockouts Champion Jade – have all left the company. The way things are going, expect several other wrestlers to have departed Tna by the time this article goes live.

Matt & Jeff Hardy leave Tna Impact Wrestling! Are they going to WWE?

This one’s a long one, people. There’s a lot of conflicting reports and broken backstage promises. So get comfy. This is the story of how The Hardy Boys left Tna…

This week was make or Delete for The Hardys and Tna Impact Wrestling. Both Matt and Jeff Hardy’s contracts were up by the end of February, and Tna are scheduled for their next batch of TV tapings from Thursday 2nd March through to Sunday. The Broken One said as much himself, tweeting yesterday:

It shall be an Intriguing week for the professional wrestling industry. pic.twitter.com/8pDkzwJu3y

— #Broken Matt Hardy (@Matthardybrand) February 27, 2017

With the usual image of him looking completely bonkers.

Contract negotiations between the Hardys and Tna have been going on for months, with Pro Wrestling Sheet reporting the two sides actually agreed to terms on a new one-year deal back in December, bar a few minor changes.

Wrestlemania 33 match in jeopardy, former World Champion leaves Tna…

As you might have noticed by all the red carpets and Meryl Streep speeches around at the moment, it’s awards season. So here’s a WrestleTalk award for Best Social Media Post of the Weekend, which goes to…Kevin Owens, in reply to Goldberg saying he’ll win Ko’s Universal Title at WWE Fastlane:

Undertaker pitched for Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania backstage? Tna changes behind-the-scenes…

Undertaker vs John Cena was the heavily rumoured match-up until a few weeks ago, where according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon had actually “been wanting to make [Taker vs Reigns] for some time…” and that “…with Undertaker’s condition the way it is, this could have been the last chance to do it. There is the idea of a generational passing of the torch.”

Now a new report has come out from Wrestling News World – who aren’t as reliable as the Wrestling Observer, but have had scoops in the past – saying that it was actually Undertaker who pitched to face Reigns, whom he wants to lose to at Wrestlemania.

In recent years, Taker has apparently said after his Wrestlemania matches that he’s wrestled his last. But by the time WWE’s biggest show of the year rolls around again the following year, he’s ready to go once more.

’5 Star Wrestling – Dominant Wrestling: Dundee’ Review

  • Nerdly
5 Star Wrestling dropped its name in the hat of UK wrestling promotions that are attempting to shake things up and make the British wrestling scene a bigger deal than it has been in many years. Airing a special show on Spike, with rumours of it going on to further regular shows in the future, 5 Star Wrestling presented us with Dominant Wresting: Dundee, a program that was promoted with the image of Scotland’s own Drew Galloway (formerly WWE’s Drew McIntyre) at the forefront. It was interesting and exciting to see a new special show in the UK, especially with the coverage to the ITV Wrestling Special on New Years Eve and the WWE produced UK Title Tournament from Blackpool a few weeks ago. Many eyes are on the UK right now when it comes to professional wrestling and this was another opportunity.

I have to admit to being a
