Giant Tom Savini Coffee Table Book Will Celebrate Legendary Horror Effects Master
Tom Savini is a name horror movie fans know as well as Stephen King, Wes Craven, and Clive Barker. The arguable king of horror movie make-up effects, Savini has worked on some of the most classic films of the genre such as George A. Romero's zombie masterpiece Dawn of the Dead, Sean S. Cunningham's original Friday the 13th film, and William Lustig's Maniac starring Joe Spinell. And if you're as much of a fan of all things Savini as we are, then you'll be pleased as punch to hear that Savini took to Twitter the other day to announce that he has a gigantic coffee table photobiography coming our way soon.

While a release date has yet to be announced for the upcoming book, you can check out the cover art below, which features Savini hanging out with two - count 'em out - two versions of

Directed by Tom Savini.

Starring Tony Todd, Patricia Tallman, Tom Towles, McKee Anderson and William Butler.

Synopsis:

Barbara and her brother Johnny are visiting their mothers’ grave when the two are attacked by seemingly deranged assailants and Johnny is killed. After escaping to a nearby farmhouse Barbara is joined by a band of survivors who struggle to work together as the numbers of hungry undead mass outside the walls.

2018 marks 50 years since the release of the late George A. Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead, the film that arguably helped create the modern zombie genre that we all know and love today.

So what with it being an anniversary year I thought I’d take a look at it. Or at least I would have taken a look at it if I hadn’t already done so two years ago in my first

A Stellar Evening: Sci-Fi Fest La at the Acme Theatre

Something very strange has been going on at the Acme Theatre these last few weeks. Some…Thing! Sci-Fi Fest La was back for a second year, and it was better than ever! Bringing together actors old and new, the program featured a series of one-act plays, most of which were specifically written for the event. Even genre icons Clive Barker and Neil Gaiman were eager to donate stories!

The program started with a play titled A Billion Tuesdays. A mentally disabled man creates a device that alters reality to varying degrees based on the number of times you click the button, leading to realities involving zombie apocalypses, futuristic technology, and even a “what if the Nazis had won” scenario. By the end of the play, it’s apparent that the father intends for his daughter to use the device to alter his condition, but she remains adamant about her love for him and refuses.

Hollywood is refusing to make George Romero's Stephen King adaptations

Hollywood is refusing to make George Romero's Stephen King adaptations
Just now seeing this, but it seems a couple of interesting tidbits came out of George A. Romero's Wizard World St. Louis Q&A last week: 1. Nobody will make his Stephen King movie adaptations "...we haven't been able to sell 'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon' to anybody. I have been working on that, and recently wrote another draft of that, but nobody wants to do that. We can't get anyone interested. That and 'Gerald's Game.' Those are the two I was interested in, but we can't get anyone." King and Romero famously collaborated on a number of films and TV shows back in the '80s and early '90s, including the 1983 anthology classic "Creepshow" and its 1987 sequel, the "Tales from the Darkside" TV series and film and the 1993 big-screen adaptation of King's "The Dark Half," which Romero wrote and directed. Romero adapted King's 1999 novel "The Girl

Exclusive Interview: Tom Savini on Directing 1990’s Night of the Living Dead

  • DailyDead
From a horde of zombie mall walkers to a young Jason Voorhees to the vengeful camp caretaker Cropsy and beyond, makeup effects master Tom Savini has for decades crafted iconic horror movie characters. The wizard of practical gore is also known for his work in front of the camera as biker Blades from 1978’s Dawn of the Dead and the whip-cracking Sex Machine in 1996’s From Dusk Till Dawn, but hardcore horror hounds also know the versatile artist from his time spent in the director’s chair on 1990’s Night of the Living Dead.

Ahead of his appearance at the Horror-Rama convention in Toronto, we caught up with Savini to reflect on his reimagining of George A. Romero’s classic zombie film:

George A. Romero wrote the script for 1990’s Night of the Living Dead, but I understand he gave you free reign to make changes as you saw fit.

‘Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed’ Review

  • Nerdly
[Editors Note: Given that we've already reviewed the Vinegar Syndrome release of Graduation Day and both discs are virtually identical bar the extras, we thought we'd review the Major difference between the two Blu-ray releases - the bonus feature on the UK disc, the documentary Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed]

It’s fair to say I’m a sucker for scream queen “documentaries”. Be they the T&A filled features such as Scream Queen Hollywood Hot Tub Party, more amateur-hour productions such as Donald Farmer’s shot-on-video Invasion of the Scream Queens, or the awesome scream queen interviews that featured in Stephen King’s World of Horror – if it features an interview with a scream queen then I’m there. I’m also a fan of the documentaries and Blu-ray extras produced by High Rising Productions – including their previously released slasher movie documentary: Slice and Dice: The Slasher Movie Forever.

Put the two together and… I’m in filmic heaven!

Directed by UK-horror scene stalwart Calum Waddell and hosted by scream queen Debbie Rochon (Terror Firmer, Tromeo and Juliet) Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed features, in a change of pace for horror documentaries, especially those focusing on females in the genre,

‘Knightriders’ Blu-ray Review

  • Nerdly
Starring: Ed Harris, Gary Lahti, Tom Savini, Amy Ingersoll, Patricia Tallman, Ken Foree | Written and Directed by George A. Romero

Have you ever heard of Knightriders? Because I sure hadn’t when I got the screener from Phil in the mail. The name’s something of a red herring and made me think that it’d be a hokey TV movie starring David Hasselhoff, but I was pleasantly surprised to find not only that there were no talking cars in the movie whatsoever, but also that it was written and directed by master of horror himself George A. Romero. But even knowing that I’d no idea what to expect, being that the first five minutes of the movie consist of Ed Harris waking up in a forest with a princess, flogging himself in a river and kneeling – naked – in front of his sword before putting on a suit of
