Billy Crystal Is Nomination Worthy In “Standing Up, Falling Down”

At the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, a legend got his due. Yes, Billy Crystal, at long last, has a role worthy of his talents. He’s certainly been terrific in the past, but it’s been more than a hot minute since we’ve seen that on the big screen. That changes here. Standing Up, Falling Down blesses Crystal with a compelling and three dimensional character play, one that’s equal parts empathetic and hilarious. One of Tribeca’s most enjoyable works this year, Crystal is brilliant worthy of some awards consideration for this role. Yes, he’s just that good here. This is one to definitely look out for, beyond the festival circuit. The movie is a comedy as well as a bit of a coming of age tale. Scott (Ben Schwartz) is a struggling stand-up comic who has been forced by failure to move back home to the eastern

Former Oscar rivals Julia Roberts and Laura Linney are on a collision course for a rematch at the Emmys

Former Oscar rivals Julia Roberts and Laura Linney are on a collision course for a rematch at the Emmys
Eighteen years ago, Julia Roberts took home the Best Actress Oscar for “Erin Brockovich” (2000). Among the people she beat? Laura Linney, who earned her first nomination with “You Can Count on Me.” And now, a full person-who-can-vote years later, the two are poised to face off again at the Emmys for Best Drama Actress.

Roberts is competing with her Amazon series “Homecoming” and Linney is Netflix’s hopeful for “Ozark.” In our early odds, both are predicted to make the lineup, with Linney in second place and Roberts in third.

Roberts may have gotten the better of Linney at the Oscars — ain’t nobody was hijacking Roberts’ coronation that year — but it’s a totally different ballgame at the Emmys. That’s because Laura Linney is a goddamn Emmy queen. She possesses a nearly perfect 4/5 record; she has three Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress statuettes and one for Best Comedy Guest Actress.

‘Amy and the Orphans’ Theater Review: ‘American Horror Story’ Star Jamie Brewer Steals the Spotlight
Clifton Webb grieved so much over the death of his 90-year-old mother, Mabelle, that Noel Coward was forced to comment: “It must be terrible to be orphaned at 71.” Coward’s spot-on quip about the epicene star of “Laura” and “Sitting Pretty” also applies to the harried brother-and-sister team in Lindsey Ferrentino’s new play, “Amy and the Orphans,” which opened Thursday at the Roundabout’s Laura Pels Theatre. Maggie and Jacob are closer to 60 when their father passes away, but they are quick to call themselves “orphans,” and as played by Debra Monk and Mark Blum they are also hilarious in their...

Here’s The Trailer For ‘Mozart In The Jungle’ Season 4

I must admit, I’m not fully aware of Amazon’s Mozart In The Jungle, but know that we’re talking a series of quality here following its multiple awards wins across the three existing series. I received an email this morning pointing me in the direction of the trailer for the upcoming fourth season.

New melodies arise as Rodrigo (Gael García Bernal) and Hailey (Lola Kirke) take their relationship public. Hailey struggles to prove herself as a conductor, while Rodrigo fights to keep his inspiration alive. Thomas (Malcolm McDowell) joins a start-up orchestra in Brooklyn that challenges Gloria (Bernadette Peters).

Movie Review – Demolition (2016)

Demolition, 2016.

Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper, Judah Lewis, Polly Draper, Debra Monk, Heather Lind and C.J. Wilson.

Synopsis

A successful investment banker writes a series of letters to a customer complaints representative following the death of his wife.

Julia Mitchell (Heather Lind), in the driving seat, is talking to her husband Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), about the leaking fridge. Davis is distant, unaware of the tools he received from a relative two Christmases ago, or even of the leaky fridge. Despite the clearly marked post-it note inside, he retorts in dismissive quips. Suddenly, a car crashes into them and the film goes to black. The unscathed Davis awakens, slumped in the hospital waiting-room, and is approached by father-in-law-cum-firm manager Phil Eastwood (Chris Cooper), as they’re informed of Julia’s passing. Davis numbly reacts with indifference and rises to the vending to purchase a packet of peanut M&Ms.
