"Grease: Rydell High" at HBO Max

TV spinoff "Grease: Rydell High", based on director Randal Kleiser's 1978 dancing/singing feature "Grease" has been handed a 'straight-to-series' order at HBO Max, to be produced by Paramount Television, Erik Feig's Picturestart and Temple Hill, featuring musical numbers from the 1950's era with new original songs, launching in 2020:

"Grease is an iconic pop-culture phenomenon that works for every generation," said Sarah Aubrey, head of content at HBO Max, "and I’m thrilled that our friends at Paramount were excited about the idea of opening up the show and putting it on a larger canvas for a weekly series.

"This is high school and life in small-town USA told on the scale of a big rock 'n roll musical. It's 'Grease 2.0' but with the same spirit, energy and excitement you immediately think of when you hear any of these iconic songs. 'You're the One That I Want'!

‘Flight of the Navigator: Limited Edition’ Blu-ray Review (Second Sight)

  • Nerdly
Stars: Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Cliff De Young, Veronica Cartwright, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Adler, Howard Hesseman | Written by Michael Burton, Matt MacManus | Directed by Randal Kleiser

I grew up with Flight of the Navigator. It’s always been one of my favourite movies. A family sci-fi adventure film that kinda fell under the radar to some degree and has since become a cult classic. It’s charming, it’s funny, it’s nostalgic as hell and it’s incredibly entertaining, so I was completely and utterly on board when Second Sight announced their upcoming Blu-ray release. A limited edition release with special features, extra goodies and a new transfer? Fans are very happy. I had a chance to take a look at the blu-ray release and here are my thoughts on it, as well as my opinions, all these years later, on the film itself.

The film was directed by Randal Kleiser,

Grease Prequel on the Way for Some Reason

Kirsten Howard Apr 10, 2019

It's money. The reason is money.

Good news, everyone! That Grease prequel you've been dreaming about all these years - right? - is coming to a theater near you soon, according to THR.

Paramount's Summer Loving will explore the events detailed in "Summer Nights," the relentless earworm Danny (John Travolta) and Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) sang to their respective friends in Randal Kleiser's 1978 hit, Grease. The retrospectively problematic one about how they first met and fell for each other, and whether Sandy put up a fight. Honestly, just typing these words has created a full Naked Lunch moment for your writer.

How do we know Summer Loving will be a key project for Paramount in the next couple of years? Well, the studio has hired John August to write the film. August is behind Guy Ritchie's new live-action Aladdin film, has written copious screenplays for

Film Review: ‘White Fang’

Film Review: ‘White Fang’
The wild wolfdog isn’t the only thing that gets tamed in “White Fang,” Luxembourgish animator Alexandre Espigares’s ravishingly designed new take on the old Jack London chestnut: London’s hard-bitten survivalist narrative is in for a wholesome cleanup too. Ostensibly more faithful to the novel than Randal Kleiser’s 1991 live-action family adventure — rather than introducing a human protagonist, it wisely stays loyal to London’s predominant mutt’s-eye-view — it nonetheless retains some of that film’s Disneyfied plot adjustments, and tempers certain visceral details to puppydog-cute effect. That’s understandable given the junior target audience, though it’s uncertain whether smaller fry will be sufficiently enraptured by the film’s richly rendered Yukon environment to wait out its stately, staggered storytelling.

Either way, enterprising families can find out for themselves via Netflix, which scooped up Espigares’s film after a warmly received premiere in Sundance’s Kids sidebar.

Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson were the perfect pair in Grease! The iconic movie tells the story about a high school couple who struggle to make their relationship work after they fall madly in love with one another over the summer. In the beloved film, Olivia Newton-John famously played good-girl Sandy and John Travolta portrayed Danny, a grease-loving bad boy. This year, the film turns 40 and in honor of the anniversary, Grease star Didi Conn (aka Frenchy!) dished on some big behind-the-scenes secrets from the 1978 musical. In a new interview, Didi revealed that John was attracted to Olivia during the movie's shoot. "Oh yeah, [he did like her]. What was so much fun was that most of us were older than the characters we were playing so we just stayed in character all day long. So there was an ongoing improvisation happening so the flirting… was fine. It was the context of the characters and the storyline,

Orson Welles Is Coming to Cannes 2018 After All, but Not With Netflix

Orson Welles Is Coming to Cannes 2018 After All, but Not With Netflix
Despite Netflix removing all of its films from the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Orson Welles will still be represented on the Croisette next month. The festival has announced the official lineup for this year’s Cannes Classics sidebar, and included on the list is the FilmStruck-produced documentary “The Eyes of Orson Welles,” from British documentarian Mark Cousin.

Netflix had originally been set to bring Welles’ unfinished film, “The Other Side of the Wind,” to the festival’s Out of Competition section, but the streaming giant announced it would not be attending the festival in any capacity after Cannes reinstated a rule preventing films without French theatrical distribution from competing for the Palme d’Or. The rule would not have affected “The Other Side of the Wind,” but Netflix wasn’t going to make an exception.

“The Eyes of Orson Welles” includes access to a lifetime of private drawings and paintings by Welles,

Cannes Classics: Orson Welles Doc, ‘Bicycle Thieves’, ‘Big Blue’, ‘Grease’ – Full List

  • Deadline
Orson Welles will be featured at next month’s Cannes Film Festival. It still won’t be via his previously unfinished The Other Side Of The Wind, which recently got caught in the scrum between the festival and Netflix. Rather, Welles will be represented in The Eyes Of Orson Welles, a new documentary from Mark Cousins that’s part of the Cannes Classics selection.

The festival today unveiled its full roster for the Classics sidebar which includes tributes and documentaries about film and filmmakers, and restorations presented by producers, distributors, foundations, cinemathèques and rights holders. Among the attendees this year are Martin Scorsese, Jane Fonda, Christopher Nolan and John Travolta.

The Eyes Of Orson Welles is a journey through the filmmaker’s visual process. Thanks to Welles’ daughter Beatrice, Cousins (The Story Of Film) was granted access to never-before-seen drawings, paintings and early works that form a sketchbook from his life.
