German-American silent screen leading man, a former stationer's clerk. He starred mainly in westerns and action films. By the 1920's, he was under contract to independent producers Phil Goldstone and Ben F. Wilson. Fairbanks retired from films in 1928. He was not related in any way to his famous namesake, Douglas.
