Hugh Grant has been very active in U.K. press reform initiatives, but he knows the problem is even bigger than the media moguls who control the world’s major news outlets. That’s why Hacked Off, the campaign he’s involved with, is also expanding its scope to include the impact of online propaganda.

“It’s particularly terrifying, the triumph of technology over democracy,” Grant told Variety‘s “My Favorite Episode” podcast. “You realize, Trump couldn’t have happened without Facebook manipulation, and Brexit couldn’t have happened without it. It’s all the ability now, people with enough money and resources, to manipulate swing voters through very highly tailored Facebook ads.”

Grant’s solution: “I would just pull the plug on social media,” he said. “I look at the pluses and minuses, and to me the minuses way outweigh the pluses. We had perfectly decent lives before social media.

Back in 2009 the BBC aired a drama based around the rise of the British home computer market, with its two main players being Sir Clive Sinclair played by Alexander Armstrong (Armstrong and Miller, Danger Mouse) and Chris Curry played by Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Fargo). Following the rise and fall of the industry, this and the feud that appeared between friends and colleagues on the different sides of the 8-bit fence; it was a fantastic one-off drama. It also had the classic line bellowed Sir Clive Sinclair, “Jet Set Fu*king Willy!” and it’s this line I feel spawned the below game, Project Zx.

Sir Clive Sinclair was never truly happy that his “educational” machine, in which children across Britain had coerced numerous parents to hand over their hard earn wages for the homework helper, was being used for nothing more than gaming tool.

Digital Media has acquired UK and Ireland distribution rights to British independent horror film The Last House on Cemetery Lane from director Andrew Jones, and right now we have an exclusive look for you cats! Check out the eye candy!

Principal photography has now been completed on British independent horror film The Last House on Cemetery Lane, which was written, produced, and directed by Welsh filmmaker Andrew Jones.

The production is the sixth feature film collaboration between UK company North Bank Entertainment and financiers Independent Moving Pictures. The cast includes Lee Bane, Vivien Bridson, Georgina Blackledge, and Tessa Wood. Robert Graham of Independent Moving Pictures executive produced.

1600s book that claims women have 'infinite multitude of defects' up for grabs
London, March 27: A 17th century book, which claimed that women have an infinite multitude of defects, is going under the hammer for an estimated 300 pounds at Duke's Auctioneers of Dorchester.

The book, titled The Art How To Known Men, likened males to a lion, with large mouths, thick hair and hard and 'musculous flesh' and claimed that women have a fair appearance which hide traits like weakness, jealousy, distrust and ungratefulness, Metro.co.uk reported.

The french novel translated into English by John Davies describes women as being 'lower and smaller' than men and that their eyes are large and black 'betraying a certain.

The Last House on Cemetery Lane Finds Distro in the UK

Word has just come in that Digital Media has acquired UK and Ireland distribution rights to British independent horror film The Last House on Cemetery Lane from director Andrew Jones. Read on for details.

The film focuses on screenwriter John Davies, who has grown tired of living in London and moves to an old manor house in a sleepy West Wales village. At first he enjoys himself, embracing the quieter pace of life and starting a relationship with his beautiful neighbour, Cassie Konrad, but strange, unexplained occurrences begin to occur in the manor house.

John discovers he is surrounded by a supernatural presence and begins to research the house's past, discovering secrets more terrible than he ever imagined. It is now up to John to right the injustices of the past and finally lay to rest the spirits which haunt the Last House on Cemetery Lane.

Johnny Carson miniseries coming to NBC: Who should play 'The Tonight Show' host?

NBC is developing a miniseries based on the life of comedian and long-time "Tonight Show" host Johnny Carson. The project will use upcoming biography "Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait" by Bill Zehme as the jumping-off point, with the miniseries covering everything from Carson's childhood growing up in Nebraska to his off-camera friendships to his 30 years on "The Tonight Show."

Zehme and John Davies, the man behind NBC's Emmy-nominated "Comedy Salute to Andy Kaufman," will executive produce. Casting for the role of Carson will be named at a later time, but we've already got a suggestion -- "Mad Men" star John Slattery (pictured above).

NBC announced on Thursday (September 19) that the network is developing a miniseries based on the life of "Tonight Show" host Johnny Carson.   The biopic will be based on Bill Zehme's upcoming book "Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait" and will cover Carson's 30-year tenure as host of "The Tonight Show." Carson's Nebraska childhood will also be covered in addition to his iconic time in Hollywood.   Zehme, who served as a production consultant on the 2012 PBS "American Masters" documentary, will executive produce the miniseries with John Davies.   NBC didn't announce a timetable on the production or premiere...

After all, prior to Lawrence of Arabia TCM will be presenting the three-and-a-half-hour-long Doctor Zhivago (1965), a great-looking but never-ending romantic drama in which Guinness — quite poorly — plays a Kgb official. He’s slightly less miscast as a mere Englishman — one much too young for the then 32-year-old actor — in Lean’s Great Expectations (1946), a movie that fully belongs to boy-loving (in a chaste, fatherly manner) fugitive Finlay Currie. When I finished V/H/S for the first time, I expected to log-on to my corner of the internet, and see my friends and colleagues sharing my excitement for the experience. What I found instead, was that I appeared to be in the minority. Everybody had something negative to say about the movie, save for James Harris(Jimmy Terror). I was surprised by this. V/H/S/2 Should Be Rewound and Played Again: A Movie Review

The ABC's of Death (2012) offered dozens of tales in a short time frame, late last year. Now, V/H/S/2, the sequel to 2012's V/H/S, brings five tales in under ninety minutes. The longest in this feature clocks in at thirty minutes ("Safe Haven") and each story has something unique to offer. Shot found footage style, via several creative ways, V/H/S/2 manages to be uniquely compelling, while including several scare worthy moments. I had met the writer Peter Spence at a dinner and he showed me a pilot script for a radio series about a rich American who moves into an English manor house. He'd conceived the female lead as an upper-class version of Margot Leadbetter, whom I'd played in The Good Life. I immediately agreed to play her, opposite Bernard Braden as the American.

I'd been sent loads of scripts since starting The Good Life, but all were a pale imitation. Realising that this would make excellent television I sent the script to John Howard Davies, producer of The Good Life. He thought it was too ordinary to have a rich American in the manor, so it was decided to make him eastern European. I was asked to start filming in two months.

Horror Bites Dissects This Year's SXSW Midnight Lineup
The feature film slate for Austin's South by Southwest festival (SXSW) was revealed last week, but as most genre fans know, the real cinematic treasures are lurking in the festival's midnight lineup. As SXSW Programmer Jarod Neece put it: "This year we scoured the globe and brought back a batch that we knew would truly satisfy the gore hounds of SXSW. Full of scares, sex, madness, laughs, chills and major mind f--ks, we hope there's a little something for everyone."

Browsing the titles, it's hard to tear our eyes away from a film called "Big Ass Spider" (directed by Mike Mendez of "The Gravedancers"), but the addition of Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem," sequel "V/H/S/2," a movie from "Splice"'s Vincenzo Natali ("Haunter"), and vampire tale "Kiss of the Damned" from Xan Cassavetes certainly helps.
