Wolfgang Büttner was born on June 1, 1912 in Rostock, Germany. He is known for his work on The Longest Day (1962), Fitzcarraldo (1982) and The Plot to Assassinate Hitler (1955). He was married to Eleonore Noelle. He died on November 18, 1990 in Stockdorf, Gauting, Bavaria, Germany.

Was conscripted for military service in 1944 and spent a year in captivity as a French prisoner-of-war.
Prolific German character actor, the son of a gynaecologist. Trained under Max Reinhardt at the Schauspielschule des Deutschen Theaters in Berlin. On stage from 1934 and member of the ensemble of the Bayerischen Staatsschauspiels from 1948 to 1960. In films from 1950, often in military roles as generals or admirals, alternatively as police inspectors, magistrates or professors.
The German synchronising voice for actors Donald Pleasence, Peter Cushing, Alan Badel and Cyril Cusack.
