How YouTube Is Trying to Get Will Smith His First-Ever Emmy Nomination (Exclusive)

  • Variety
YouTube could be the key to Will Smith finally earning a Primetime Emmy nomination — or win.

The superstar Formerly Known as the Fresh Prince has been nominated for two Academy Awards, five Golden Globes and one Screen Actors Guild Award, and has won four Grammys (out of eight nominations). Yet a Primetime Emmy nomination has so far eluded Smith.

That’s despite Smith’s long-running stint as the star of the hit 1990s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Smith’s other TV credits include executive producing Upn’s “All of Us.” But neither of those even got him a primetime nod. Smith technically was nominated in 1992 for a Daytime Emmy Award, in the outstanding special class program category for his part in the special “NBA All-Star Stay in School Jam,” but that’s it.

One explanation is obvious: After “Fresh Prince,” Smith mostly turned his attention to film. His

‘American Idol’ Tops Sunday; ‘NCIS: La’ Sees Ratings Jag, Fox Wraps Animated Series

ABC’s two-hour American Idol was Sunday’s top-rated show of broadcast primetime, and finished second to CBS’ 60 Minutes as the night’s most watched show.

The programming included Fox wrapping up the seasons of its animated comedies, while NCIS: Los Angeles saw bumps in both the demo and total viewers thanks surely to the start of a Jag crossover that returned David James Elliott’s Navy Captain Harmon Rabb Jr. to the network in a multi-episode arc.

Idol ticked down a tenth from its final 1.2 rating of a week ago but finished No. 1 in the metric for an 11th consecutive week. With the help of time-slot ratings wins for lead-in America’s Funniest Home Videos and the finale of Shark Tank, both up a tenth, ABC won the night again both categories.

Jag: CBS Eyeing an Official Revival?

Jag: CBS Eyeing an Official Revival?
NCIS: La‘s forthcoming Jag-centric arc may be more than just a nostalgia-fueled sweeps stunt. There’s buzz that the May two-parter — which will find David James Elliott and Catherine Bell reprising their roles as Navy Captain “Harm” Rabb Jr.and Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie, respectively — is serving as an unofficial backdoor pilot for a Jag revival.

CBS declined to comment for this story, but TVLine has learned that the network is indeed testing the waters for a new edition of Jag that would star Elliott and Bell.

In a recent interview with TVLine, NCIS: La showrunner

The Code Sneak Peek: The Few, The Proud, The Lawyers

A series spotlighting military attorneys prosecuting and defending servicemen accused of crimes.

Nope, it's not Jag, originally envisioned as a blend of Top Gun and A Few Good Men.

That courtroom drama aired for a decade, for one season on NBC before moving to CBS for the rest of its run, making stars of David James Elliott and Catherine Bell.

It even spawned a franchise which has been a CBS mainstay since then, NCIS. Maybe you've heard of it.

No, this new series being described is The Code. It debuts behind, you guessed it, NCIS at 9 tonight on CBS before moving to 9 p.m. Mondays starting April 15, taking over the Magnum P.I. slot.

The Code features a team of Marine lawyers who prosecute and defend Marines accused of crimes while in the service.

Why CBS Needs to Renew Madam Secretary Now

Madam Secretary is that rarest of all shows: a political drama that avoids being preachy and one-sided.

The writers have a definite point of view but give air time to the opposing side. It also balances political storylines with family issues, making it appealing to a broad range of viewers.

In the current tumultuous political climate, we need more shows like this. But CBS has not decided yet whether or not to renew Madam Secretary for a sixth season.

Make no mistake about it: we Need this show.

For one thing, it offers a political perspective that no other show does.

Madam Secretary often presents events that are in the Us news from a global perspective, making viewers consider issues in a way they might not have before.

For example, on Madam Secretary Season 5 Episode 17, the vaccination debate in the United States had far-reaching consequences.

NCIS Season 16 Episode 18 Review: Mona Lisa

That was wild, and a little confusing.

NCIS Season 16 Episode 18 found Torres in the spotlight, and for all the wrong reasons. As a new viewer to NCIS, I appreciated that "Mona Lisa" put one of the NCIS team in the frame for a crime they did not commit.

It helped illustrate the way the relationships inside the NCIS were built, but damn, the evidence against Torres was stacking up from the get-go.

It was a bizarre way to take things for the character, but it highlighted that your drink being spiked is not reserved for bars. Have you ever heard of somebody having their protein shake spiked? It's a stretch, but I'm sure it has to have happened away from the show.

The breadcrumbs of evidence were intriguing and all, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Torres should have been kept well away from the case. I get that

Jag Reunion: Catherine Bell to Join David James Elliott on NCIS: Los Angeles!

Another familiar face from Jag is headed to NCIS: Los Angeles.

Per EW, Catherine Bell has signed up to reprise the role of Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie in the NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 finale, which is slated to air in May.

This means Bell will be reuniting with fellow Jag alum, David James Elliott who was previously revealed to be stopping by the NCIS spinoff later this season.

“Catherine’s ‘Mac’ was a strong, smart woman who held her own, and then some, in a male dominated world,” says NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, who also worked on Jag.

“Her character paved the way for other strong female leads. Not only is it great to be working together again as friends, but to be able to write for Catherine and have her same character interact with our NCIS: Los Angeles characters now, that’s wonderfully surreal.

Catherine Bell To Reprise Her “Mac” Character On ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’; Could ‘Jag’ Reboot Be In the Cards?
It’s a Jag reunion! Jag leading lady Catherine Bell is joining her co-star David James Elliott for a recurring stint on CBSNCIS: Los Angeles. The plan at the moment is for the duo to do a joint arc on NCIS: La only. However, in the current environment when reboots are more popular than ever, their appearance together reprising their popular characters is raising speculation that, in success, it could potentially lead to some sort of a Jag revival/reboot. NCIS: La and Jag are part of the same universe as mothership NCIS originated as a spinoff from Jag.

Bell will reprise her Jag character, Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie. She’ll appear in the season finale episode airing on Sunday, May 19.

In the episode, as the NCIS team tries to uncover a complicated network of Isis sympathizers who look to be planning an attack on Us aircraft carriers and possible worse,
