Monk once again attempts to be reinstated as a police officer. Once again, he is turned down. He finds out one of his "judges" has a son headed for a camping trip, and volunteers to chaperone the kid sand several others, along with Lieut. Disher. His attempt to win the kid over falls on deaf ears. In the woods, he encounters a rather large bear (the kind you might find in the Alaskan wilderness, but definitely not in northern California) and two very bad guys. It's the usual antics. Monk is about as comfortable in the great outdoors as .. well, as Monk is anywhere he goes. A time killer at best. The episode demonstrates why the series needs to end.
