Movies have supremely warped my conception of time. No longer do I judge the fragments of the year in terms of trite notions of spring, summer, fall and winter. Instead my calendar is notated with marketing strategies of major studios. For example, the beginning of the year is award season, followed by a dumping ground, followed by the blockbusters, another dumping ground, horrorween, and finally holiday season. Having just hurdled horrorween relatively unscathed, we find ourselves staring down the barrel of a number of films ready to bank on the inescapable jubilance of the next two months. For me, this is the cinematic season that garners the highest level of concern. The thing is there are very few holiday films that I watch on a regular basis that were released after 1987. Elf would be an exception to that block given that I find it to be a pitch perfect holiday film that captures the child-like wonder of »

Hugh Grant said most of his films leave him feeling "suicidal".
The 'Love Actually' actor told how when he has saw the first cuts of a number of his films - which include the hugely successful 'Bridget Jones's Diary' and 'Notting Hill'- he felt so bad about his performances he wanted to die.
He said: "Normally, when I see the first cut I'm suicidal. I want to go to that euthanasia clinic in Switzerland, Dignitas, and have myself put down."
Despite his negativity, the actor was pleasantly surprised when he saw an early version of his latest film, comedy 'Did You Hear About The Morgans?' in which he stars alongside Sarah Jessica Parker.
Hugh, 49, added: "This film looks a lot better. This one is quite beautiful."
The self-proclaimed "reluctant actor" has threatened to quit Hollywood many times and to give up acting, even claiming he »

The biggest DVD and Blu-ray release for this week is probably G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. It pains me to know that this week some brave souls will give it another chance, while others will discover its sheer idiocy for the first time. If you're looking for something slightly better but still mediocre, you might try Tony Scott's remake of The Taking of Pelham 123. Other smaller releases for the week include Dolph Lundgren's direct-to-dvd action flick Command Performance, the Spanish post-apocalyptic flick Before The Fall, and the G.I. Joe Resolute animated microseries. Also keep an eye out for a few noteworthy documentaries this week including Food Inc., The English Surgeon, and the John Hughes doc Don't You Forget About Me (in Canada only). Plus: James Bond and Rocky collections on Blu-ray, and the only partially redundant Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut! Will you be picking anything up this week? »

Before we get into this week's releases I thought I would alert you to an upcoming 50% off Criterion Collection titles at Barnes and Nobles beginning on November 10 and running for two weeks. The full details, and a $5 off coupon, can be found in the DVD Talk forums.
Wings of Desire (Criterion Collection) This is a huge week for major title releases on Blu-ray as Criterion's release of Wim Wenders's Wings of Desire is just the first of three titles I reviewed and most likely blew my word count for the next two weeks trying to get all of my thoughts squared away.
As for this title specifically, it was my first time seeing it and as it played on and on I began to enjoy it more and more. However, if you read my lengthy review, you will »

When you see Nick Frost in films, often it’s alongside his buddy Simon Pegg in flicks like the zombie comedy ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ or action spoof ‘Hot Fuzz,’ but for his upcoming film ‘Pirate Radio,’ Frost breaks free from his comrade comfort zone to embrace a new character.
In the film, Frost plays Dr. Dave, a member of a band of rogue deejays who captivated British radio listeners in the ’60s, playing the music that defined a generation and boldly defying the government that tried to shut them down.
Nick Frost stars as 'Doctor' Dave in Richard Curtis' rock and roll comedy Pirate Radio, a Focus Features release.
“…It was good for me that I didn’t have the safety harness of being with my two best friends,” notes Frost, referring to Pegg and Wright. “And, I really had to pinch myself knowing that I have an acting »

Thanks to a notice from Twitter user BriMan87 I was alerted to the trailer for the upcoming John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy from director Sam Taylor Wood, which is expected to see the light of day sometime next year from the Weinstein Co.
The pic stars Aaron Johnson (The Illusionist) as Lennon and tells the never before seen story of the famed musician's childhood beginning at the age of 15 on the streets of Liverpool. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Mimi Smith, Lennon's maternal aunt and parental guardian. Thomas Sangster, who most people know as Liam Neeson's son in Love Actually, plays Paul McCartney and Anne-Marie Duff plays Lennon's mother Julia.
Check out the trailer directly below.

Here's an interesting film. Nowhere Boy, the feature debut of Sam Taylor-Wood, focuses on the formative years of The Beatles, before they were ever The Beatles. It is a John Lennon biopic that focuses on his early years, starring Aaron Johnson as the would-be rock icon and Thomas Sangster (Love Actually) as his eventual partner in crime, Paul McCartney. The casting is curious, as neither Johnson (as Lennon) or Sangster (as McCartney) have "the look" as you might expect from a regular biopic, but the film seems to have some pep. It will be interesting to see how Lennon's teen years -- including his relationship with his conservative aunt (Kristen Scott Thomas) and his less than reliable birth mother (Anne-Marie Duff) -- play out on screen. The script comes from Matt Greenhalgh, who wrote Control, the Joy Division biopic from last year that was nothing short of magnificent. To say the least, the »

I didn't expect we'd see a trailer for this film this quickly, but alas, here it is. The first trailer for Sam Taylor-Wood's Nowhere Boy, the biopic about a young John Lennon, has debuted on YouTube (via The Playlist). This actually looks fantastic, even better than I was expecting. It definitely seems like Taylor-Wood made the right choice picking Aaron Johnson to play Lennon and I'm also impressed by how quickly the young Thomas Sangster has grown up. He looks a lot older in this as Paul McCartney than he did in Love Actually. Whether you're a fan of The Beatles or not, I suggest you watch this trailer anyway. You'll find it below! Just last week January Jones revealed that, while they were dating, Ashton Kutcher told her he didn’t think she’d be any good at the acting biz, and that she should call it quits.
Well, Jones certainly wasn’t deterred by the lack of support from Kutcher. Already having cemented her place as a TV starlet with her role on Mad Men, Jones is ready to take on the big screen.
Before making a name for herself with Mad Men, Jones had supporting roles in numerous movies including Love Actually, American Wedding, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Jones has moved past being a supporting actress, signing on for starring roles in two films in the past week.
Last week Jones signed on for Dark Castle’s Unknown White Male with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger, and it has now been revealed that she will also be starring with Nicolas Cage in Hungry Rabbit Jumps, »
