I wasn't quite sure how to properly word the headline for this post considering I want to make sure you understand I am talking about the season pretty much running from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but I also want to make sure you know the film itself doesn't have to necessarily be about the holidays.
Take Die Hard for instance, it's set during Christmas time, but it isn't a Christmas film. However, it fits in with what I am looking for here. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Eyes Wide Shut, Fanny and Alexander, Batman Returns, Gremlins, The Thin Man and When Harry Met Sally are other examples. Hell, I would even say Rocky IV and Lethal Weapon count. As a matter of fact, I would say the non-Christmas, Christmas movies are the more interesting additions. How about The Shining or even Psycho?
Then, of course, I personally love films such as Love, »

Children are so hard to incorporate into film and theater. The actors always are pesky, uncooperative, and rarely any good. However Max Records of “Where The Wild Things Are” stands out among today’s young actors with composure, emotion, and charm.
Records plays Max, an innocent boy who throws tantrums in a bratty, boisterous manor. He acts exactly as a child should though, beginning the film playing in the snow, throwing snowballs, and building an igloo. He ends up getting hurt and crying like a child should, but in return we see the wrath of Max and the love of his mother. Later Max plays out the scene from the book step for step by throwing a tantrum at the kitchen table and gets sent to bed. Flash forward and we see Max traveling to his own world toward the wild things. Max interacts and has an uneven time with the creatures. »

Chris Columbus was responsible for a lot of the movies I loved when I was a kid. Dude wrote Gremlins and Goonies, directed Adventures In Babysitting and Home Alone. Somewhere along the way though (Bicentennial Man?), the wheels fell off and things haven't been the same since. I mean I Love You, Beth Cooper should've been vintage Chris Columbus but it was an absolute train wreck. I guess here's hoping for the kids of this generation that they get to experience some vintage Columbus with... »

Beverly Hills — It's a rite of passage. It's the flexing of one of our most important muscles: imagination. But most importantly, it's pure and simple fun.
It is the reading of Maurice Sendak's classic 1963 book "Where the Wild Things Are." And for five decades, it has been a childhood tradition.
"It was read to me," 48-year-old Oscar winner Forest Whitaker recalled recently, remembering the first time he became aware of the book that he'll help turn into a feature film this weekend. "First, it was read to me as a kid. And then it was one of those books I was able to like when I got old enough to read. »

Alas, filmmaker Chris Columbus does not appear to tweet (I checked), so we must for now remain bereft of his feelings concerning Leonard, Sheldon, Wolowitz, and Raj's tradition of celebrating "Columbus" Day by watching the Columbus-penned generational touchstones Goonies, Gremlins, and Young Sherlock Holmes -- probably the nicest Columbus Day joke ever made about the Home Alone director, in fact. (And yes, Young Sherlock Holmes is indeed a touchstone, if only because it is the first major motion picture to feature a character fashioned entirely via computer.) (Whoa, got a bit Sheldon up in here. Apologies.) The holiday merriment was short-lived, »

Drew Barrymore makes an impressive directorial debut with this coming of age story set in the world of Roller Derby. This is a sports movie for women, by women, starring women. I suspect men will have little trouble enjoying it as well. Adorable Ellen Page (Juno) plays Bliss, a socially awkward teenager from Bodeen, Texas, who is thrust into the world of pageants by her mother (Marcia Gay Harden). One day while shopping in a thrift store, she sees three women skate into the store and leave some fliers about an upcoming Roller Derby.
Intrigued, she recruits her best friend Pash (Alia Shawkat of Arrested Development) to venture into Austin for the event. She is immediately captivated by the sport. She dusts off her old Barbie skates and tries out for the team. After making the team, she becomes an unlikely hero, using her small stature to weave in, out, »

Rare is the occasion where the week biggest release isn't a new blockbuster but rather a septuagenarian, but that's the case this time as a young girl from Kanas eclipses anything New Hollywood has to throw at us. This is your DVD Report for Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
Since the advent of Blu-ray, studios have casually mined their catalogues for suitable re-releases, and while the results have often been notable, they're usually nothing to stop the presses over. But every once in a while, that little extra effort is made that blows something out of the water and we get something like MGM's timeless "The Wizard of Oz," which breezes into its 70th birthday with one of the best Blu-ray collections of all time.
Presented in a large hardbound rectangular case, the 70th Anniversary Edition of "Oz" comes as a three-disc Blu-ray set featuring a whopping 20+ hours of bonus content, and is »

There are certain things, rules if you will, that should adhere to all Bruce Willis action vehicles. The first being him mouthing off to any and every one who opposes his authority. The second is Willis being shot at eighty billion times, followed by him serving up the best kinds of ass-kicking (a.k.a. rule number three.) Die Hard established this quite well, and it was followed by three very awesome sequels that all kept to these rules. Even Armageddon, in all it’s super amazing badness, is able to stay within the confines of these rules, replacing the shooting with a giant asteroid flinging debris everywhere. Surrogates attempts to humanize Willis, taking everything one loves about the man and making it the exact opposite. As you might’ve guessed, the world is a much, much worse place because of this.
But that’s not the real reason why »

A second longer teaser trailer for Fox's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief has arrived. It apparently was found on the Wolverine DVD and it's the teaser they should've played in front of Harry Potter. If you remember back during the summer, this first teaser trailer was attached to Half-Blood Prince, and because it was so Potter-like and vague, it left audiences confused, especially because not that many people are familiar with this series of books. However, I'll admit that I'm now much more curious, enough to call it worth watching. I'm not a fan of director Chris Columbus, but this looks like it'll be fun? Watch the second teaser for Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is directed by Chris Columbus, of everything from Adventures in Babysitting to Home Alone to Mrs. Doubtfire to Bicentennial Man to Harry Potter ... »

Peter Stebbings feature directing debut Defendor is not your typical superhero movie. Actually, it features no super powers, and the vigilantism is more Home Alone than Death Wish. It's a character piece with both dramatic and comic elements. Defendor successfully attempts to both subvert and inhabit the superhero genre in a much Much different way than Matthew Vaughn's upcoming adaptation of Kick-Ass. Woody Harrelson stars as a possibly borderline mentally challenged man who decides to fight crime under the nickname Defendor. He paints a black mask over his eyes, wears a big D made from duct tape across his chest, and even speaks in a much deeper voice, ala Batman. Defendor befriends a prostitute played by Kat Dennings, who might have information on how to find "Captain Industry," the evil villain he's been after for years. Defendor's origin story is told using brief flashbacks, giving us insight into his childhood. »

Remember when Fox was awesome? When it was just that company on Channel 11 (at least in Los Angeles) that showed all those really cool shows like The Simpsons and Married with Children and Malcolm in the Middle and Family Guy? When it was that studio that released great movies like Die Hard and Home Alone. When they didn.t run the country.s most ridiculous, almost caricature-like, news channel. Those were the days. Now Fox is that lame company that pulls a bunch of fan-hating stunts in an attempt to make up for their loss in ticket sales. Well, at least one dude isn.t taking it anymore (him and a bunch of people he got to jump onboard). ChicagoNow reports that Victor Lozano is filing a class-action lawsuit against FoxStore for sending him unauthorized text messages regarding their movie related products. The texts contained such spammy, unwanted content as »

I've been wanting to see the concept for The Home come to life in brilliant flashing images on a silver screen ever since I first heard it. Just think: a mentally and physically scarred firefighter, a house that manifests itself and torments all the elderly people inside, and the inevitable sequel The Home Alone wherein Macaulay Culkin goes insane inside a living house that doesn't like having paint cans hung from its rafters. It's one of the more innovative horror concepts I've heard tale of in a while, so of course I'm keeping an ear to the ground for any developments. So far, it's about where it was during the last update. Weta is still involved, Elijah Wood is still one of the producers, but now he's at least claiming he wants a 2009 start date. During an interview with Attack of the Show, Wood discussed his role in 9 and told Olivia Munn and crew some background for »

For fans of The Smurfs, especially all the members of the Official Smurf Fan Club, that dream is finally coming true.
A few months back, Columbia Pictures announced that they were retooling the 1980s cartoon for not only the big screen, but in 3D as well. Now that some time has passed, the first poster has been revealed, showing us what the new-and-improved smurfs will look like, and if anyone has ever collected the Smurf figures, they know what to expect.

Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin has shot down a sensational U.K. newspaper report suggesting he is the biological father of Michael Jackson's youngest son Prince Michael II.
The Sun published an article on Monday naming former child star Culkin, a close friend of the pop superstar, as the dad of the seven year old, aka Blanket.
The boy was delivered via a surrogate, whose identity has never officially been disclosed.
The King of Pop's death in June has sparked fresh speculation over the child's parentage.
Culkin, who has yet to publicly speak about the death of his pal, is the latest to be linked to the controversy. But the actor's representative Michelle Bega has blasted the "preposterous" claims.
When approached by TMZ.com to comment on The Sun's article, Bega replied, "The enquiries are too preposterous for us to even acknowledge."
Jackson claimed to have fathered his two eldest children, Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, with his second wife Deborah Rowe, but even that has come into question, with both British actor Mark Lester and Rowe's former boss, Jackson's dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein, both suggesting they could be the biological fathers. »

Remember the little kid smacking his face and screaming at the two notorious thieves in “Home Alone”? If you do, then fasten up your seat belts to get the shock of your life. News have been spreading fast that Macaulay Culkin could be the biological father of Blanket, Michael Jackson’s youngest son. Blanket, who is also referred as Prince Michael II, is the son of the Home Alone kid. Culkin met the late king of pop when he was just 10 years old in 1990. The child actor had stayed over at Jackson’s house in Neverland Ranch and they both are even reported to have shared beds that night. In 2005 Culkin had been a witness in Michael’s child molestation trial, after which they remained friends forever. There were also rumors that Michael had asked Culkin to donate sperm at some.... »
