'New Moon' Opens with Deafening Howl

11 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

The Twilight Saga: New Moon dawned with a hot-blooded estimated $140.7 million on approximately 8,500 screens at 4,024 sites over the weekend, charting as the third highest-grossing opening behind only The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3 and the biggest of 2009. With the advent of New Moon, not to mention an excellent showing by The Blind Side, overall business surged 56 percent over the same weekend last year when Twilight and Bolt debuted and was the second-highest seen in history, behind the weekend that The Dark Knight opened.

On its opening day, New Moon shattered the records for opening day ($72.7 million) and midnight showings ($26.3 million), thanks to the rush of its fervent fan base. Just like its predecessor, Twilight, the supernatural romance fell over 40 percent Friday-to-Saturday and the Friday accounted for more than half of the weekend business. On each day, New Moon essentially doubled the grosses of Twilight, which is an incredible feat for a sequel, »

As Robin Thicke gets ready to become a father, he can check one item off his to-do list: the baby's name. "My wife is good," he said, "I'm just trying to make her as comfortable as possible and hopefully nature will take care of the rest and give us a healthy baby." Cougar Town fans are waiting with bated breath to find out if Jules Cobb can lock down a younger man. But some real-life drama involving star Courteney Cox is going to keep that cliffhanger hanging a little longer. "We can confirm production on Cougar Town has been temporarily shut down in order for Courteney to deal with a private family matter," ABC said in a statement Saturday. A network rep declined to elaborate, and there was no immediate word on the nature of the problem from Cox's personal publicist. (Originally published Nov. 21, 2009, at 12:07 p.m. Pt) »

Cruise And Diaz Movie Suspended After Two Injured

7 hours ago | | See recent news »

Filming has been suspended on Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz's new movie Knight And Day after two people were injured when seven bulls escaped the set onto the streets of Spain.

The animals, which were being used to recreate scenes from the country's annual Pamplona bull run, fled onto the streets of Cadiz until they were recaptured approximately 40 minutes later.

Two women were slightly hurt during the stampede, according to local police and officials, leading the mayor's office to call off shooting until safety procedures are re-evaluated.

A spokesperson for the mayor of Cadiz says, "Nothing will be filmed in Cadiz until we have a new plan that guarantees the safety of local residents."

Producer Calle Cruzada insists he did not know how the bulls managed to escape.

But the incident will further the fears of an anti-bullfighting organisation, whose members have pleaded with Cruise and Diaz to pull out of the movie.

Cas International released a statement last week (beg16Nov09), that read, "Apart from the fact that bulls are abused for this movie, we also fear that after seeing this movie, even more American and other tourists will participate in the bull runs in Pamplona and elsewhere in Spain."

Cruise and Diaz were due to fly to Spain to start filming their scenes next weekend (28-29Nov09). »

The Howling Do-Over Coming Soon

1 hour ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

You may well remember Joe Dante's werewolf movie The Howling, wherein Dee Wallace-Stone (the mum in E.T.!) played a woman being stalked by a terrifying killer who turns out to secretly be a werewolf. You probably don't remember its six sequels, but that's Ok because it's being rebooted with The Howling: Reborn, due out next Halloween.Joe Nimziki has written and will direct this new wolf story, making his directorial debut after a career as a marketing executive at studios including Sony and New Line. There's no word on the plot yet, but we're going to go out on a limb and guess that it involves people growing fur and fangs when the moon is full.Werewolves are, of course, so hot right now, and with another Twilight movie and The Wolf Man also due out this year, this is an idea whose time has arguably come. That, »

Taylor Swift Tops Even Michael Jackson at American Music Awards

Kanye West might have a problem with it, but this is definitely Taylor Swift's year. The 19-year-old twanger pocketed a leading five prizes, including the biggest, Artist of the Year, at Sunday's American Music Awards, while Michael Jackson made some history from beyond the grave. The late King of Pop won four posthumous awards—including Favorite Pop/Rock Artist and Pop/Rock Album for his 2003 greatest hits set, Number Ones—bringing his Ama career total to 25. In a night win neither of the top winners was present (Jackson for obvious reasons; Swift was in London rehearsing for a show at Wembley Arena), the Los Angeles cemerony was marked by a couple of outrageous performances (thank... »

The 2009 reality TV season is zooming toward its inevitable end -- the sounds of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" at the local pharmacy tell me it is so -- but that just means it's the most wonderful time of the year for Réalité*. Righteous winners were crowned on America's Next Top Model and Project Runway. Hugh Hefner committed an act of unintentional sabotage on Dancing With the Stars. The spirits of Channing Tatum and Carol Channing were invoked (probably for the last time) on So You Think You Can Dance. And someone totally awesome (named Jennifer) rallied despite weird Da »

The 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' finale asks, 'Do you respect wood?'

2 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

So I'm going to begin this little blogular write-up with two confessions, neither of them embarrassing:   1) This is the first "Curb Your Enthusiasm" season that I've watched live from start to finish. "Curb" is a show I've always enjoyed, but one I've usually set aside at different points in previous seasons. This is the first season that's remained appointment viewing from start to finish, so don't be surprised when it makes my Top 10 for the year.   2) It's surprising that this should be the season I made it through because, as my friends and loved ones know,... »

But before anybody protests that Chris Weitz's vampire/werewolf mope-off is a good 45 minutes shorter than Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel (enabling it to fit in more sessions per day »

Sunday (Nov. 22) night's "The Amazing Race" included a difficult Detour, a ridiculous Roadblock and yet another opportunity to delve into "Amazing Race" ethics. There may well be yet another lecture on "Amazing Race" karma to come, but we'll probably have to wait until next week to see how the fates conspire against several offending teams.   We're down to the Final Four on "The Amazing Race" and on Sunday's episode, three teams in that quartet exhibited behavior that was marginally questionable and, in at least one case, possibly shady. As a result, I may not know which time I'm actively... »

No sooner has he parted ways with The Tourist than Empire's only non-special-issue, two-month-sequential-coverboy (granted, that tag needs work) Sam Worthington has found another project to fill what precious little time he had left on his schedule between now and somewhere into 2025: he is, according to Variety, attached to star in The Last Days Of American Crime. The story is set in the near future, and hinges on a Us government plan to broadcast a signal which renders people unable to commit illegal acts. It all sounds like it'll land us squarely in Philip K. Dick / George Orwell territory (never a bad thing), so you can bet your boots that someone in power is up to no good. The project is so young it's virtually a zygote, with no announcement of a director yet, while even the comic book series - by Punisher: War Journal series author Rick Remender »
