Brittany Murphy's Uso Tour Appearance, 'Avatar' In 3D And 'Toy Story 3' Finished In Today's Twitter-Wood
7 hours ago
Brittany Murphy and "Avatar" look poised to dominated Twitter-Wood's thoughts this holiday week, even if most of the tweeters are leaving their offices to tweet from home and last-minute shopping expeditions right now. Alyssa Milano retweeted a photo taken when she and Murphy appeared on a Uso tour together, reflecting on the time they spent there. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, Samm Levine and David Spade all had different reactions to "Avatar" in 3D.
You can sort out what they had to say after the jump along with a former "Saved By the Bell" star's denial of drunken behavior, Kevin Smith's response to a tweeter about his wife's Playboy photos and former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio on whether or not he plans on coming back to "Ugly Betty." It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 22, 2009.

The First Official 'Eclipse' Still Pops Up Online
8 hours ago
That's right Twilighters. I know you've been waiting patiently while James Cameron's sci-fi epic "Avatar" shoves "New Moon" down in the box office rankings (such is the way of things), but that doesn't mean things aren't percolating with Summit Entertainment on the "Twilight" front.
You might have seen this first image from "Eclipse" elsewhere, but it's now officially online for your viewing pleasure. It's not a terribly action-packed moment, but I'm sure it's enough to keep you on the edge of your seat for more. Look for that "more" to arrive soon enough, as the June 30, 2010 release date inches closer.

Quentin Tarantino Has 40 Pages Of 'Inglourious Basterds' Prequel Written But It's Not His Next Movie
9 hours ago
When we spoke to Quentin Tarantino a few weeks ago, he didn't really get specific about what he's doing next. He's still not being specific about what he's doing next, but a few new details have emerged concerning his future plans.
The "Inglourious Basterds" director sat down for a chat recently with Vulture, and they got to talking about what's next. Tarantino admitted that he actually has 40 pages of an "Inglourious" prequel already written, but it's backburnered for now. He has every intention of pursuing it at some point, with decisions likely to be made after the awards season dust settles, but there's something different on the horizon right now for the man who gave the world "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs."
The word is that Tarantino is planning a "smaller, less epic" project, something that could conceivably come together (he hopes) over about a half a year of focused writing. …

'Knight & Day' Trailer -- The Movie Formerly Known As 'Wichita' -- Arrives Online
9 hours ago
If you saw "Avatar" this past weekend then you probably saw this trailer for "Knight & Day." You might know the movie by its original working title, "Wichita." Cameron Diaz stars as a woman whose life is thrown into disarray when an ace secret agent, played by Tom Cruise, comes into her life. As you might expect, shenanigans ensue. As you'll see in this trailer, which I get a very "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" vibe from.

Christmas is almost upon us, and if you haven't checked everything and everyone off your holiday shopping list, you're a terrible person. We kid! But seriously: nothing says "You're important to me" like a last-minute trip to the mall for scented candles or your third consecutive pair of Christmas mittens.
We've all gotten those crappy goodies during less-than-memorable family get-togethers, just as we've all been given those prezzies that are so superlative they make our hearts sing. And you know who gets the best gifts of all? People in the movies. Before you check under the tree this year to see if your loved ones think you've been naughty or nice, check out our picks for the best presents in movie history.

'Sherlock Holmes' Star Jude Law Says No To 'Thor' Casting Rumors
10 hours ago
From Splash Page: "Sherlock Holmes" arrives in theaters this week, pairing "Iron Man 2" star Robert Downey Jr. with actor Jude Law — who remains a far less prominent star in the comic book movie world than his co-star, despite his comics cred-inspiring ink. (He has a tattoo of Rorschach from "Watchmen.") However, an October rumor seemed to indicate that Law was on track to change all that with a role in "Thor" alongside Robert De Niro.
Unfortunately, the rumor turned out to be just that, as Law explained to MTV News during the recent "Sherlock Holmes" red carpet event.
"Was there?" said Law when told there was a widely circulated rumor tagging him for a role in Kenneth Branagh's film about the Marvel god of thunder.

'Rock Of Love' Star Bret Michaels Describes His 'American Pie' Role And The Feel Of Peanut Butter
11 hours ago
Bret Michaels knows a thing or two about women. He might know a few more things about love. So that's why, when the "American Pie" team needed a male expert in all things love and peanut butter, the "Rock of Love" star and Poison frontman seemed like the likely candidate to make a cameo in "American Pie Presents: The Book of Love," which hits stores today.
"Well here's what I know. These are the facts. Obviously I'm very aware of the series," he told MTV News. "They had actually called and said 'Look we have this part and we think it would be funny. It's a very peanut butter-oriented part, in which no one will ever look at peanut butter the same again.'"
When it was explained to him that it was similar in nature to the now infamous apple pie scene in the original flick he couldn't help …

'Star Wars' Villain Darth Vader Brings The Galactic Empire To The New York Stock Exchange
11 hours ago
I'll admit, this is one of the stranger posts I've ever written. At the end of the summer, we ran a flipbook image gallery featuring the cast of the stage show adaptation of Troma Entertainment's "Toxic Avenger." This latest gallery amps the geekery up to 11.
Darth Vader and a squad of stormtrooper lackeys popped up at the New York Stock Exchange this morning to ring the opening bell. Oddly, they were joined by R2-D2, the plucky little robot that has aided the Rebellion against Vader's Empire time and time again. Did the Dark Lord of the Sith finally capture the droid, wiping its memory and turning it into a tool of evil? No one knows. Regardless, I'm willing to accept Vader's brutal tactics so long as he's willing to put them to work in fixing our broken economy. Click the image to behold the fully glory of our …

Check Out 'The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus,' 'Police, Adjective' And 'Ricky' In This Week's unLimited
12 hours ago
This Friday is Christmas, a day in which millions will go to the movies following their gift-giving and other holiday rituals, and as usual there are plenty of new releases opening wide for them to choose from. There's something for the kiddies, something for the adults and something for both action-fiends and classic literature buffs. And of course there are those who'll be catching up on or returning to the beautiful 3D world of "Avatar."
But for audiences looking for something less mainstream, there are also a few new titles out in limited release. Of these, one will be expanding its scope to play nearer to you in coming weeks, while the other two are available for viewing on demand through most cable services. So keep them each in mind and seek them out when and if you can.

'Sherlock Holmes' Is The Elementary Choice In This Week's Box Office Poll
13 hours ago
The weekend's sad news concerning Brittany Murphy resulted in a lot of yesterday's content being shunted to today, including this week's Box Office Poll. That scheduling change in no way diminishes that quality of the options available to movie-goers going into the Christmas weekend.
Let's start with "Sherlock Holmes," director Guy Ritchie's action-packed take on the master detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This movie is great, a blockbuster thrill ride that infuses those oh-so-familiar Holmes tropes with Ritchie's instantly recognizable stylistic flair. If you've seen "Avatar" already -- or even if you haven't! -- I highly recommend checking out "Holmes" during the coming holiday weekend.
If you're looking for a less action-packed good time out at the movies this weekend, "It's Complicated" is a perfectly acceptable alternative to "Holmes." It's about a divorced couple who remain friends, and the complications that arise when the ex-wife meets someone new. …

New 'Valentine's Day' Trailers Brings Us Taylors Lautner And Swift
13 hours ago
From Hollywood Crush: It's not even 2010 yet, but already we're counting down the days until "Valentine's Day" hits theaters. Ensemble romantic comedies tend to be some of the better rom-coms that are put out nowadays (look at this year's "He's Just Not That Into You" or our personal Christmas favorite, 2001's "Love Actually"), and even though we have some reservations on how this particular star-fest will hold up, it's still something we can't wait to see.
The second trailer (see it after the jump!) hit theaters over the weekend, and it's definitely showing off its aspect that is getting all the buzz: its massive cast. We see in the trailer how much of the film will be spent interweaving its characters with one another, such as can be seen with Ashton Kutcher in particular and at the Anti-Valentine's Day party lead by Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel.

Is Peter Jackson Adapting The 'Mortal Engines' Novel Series?
Peter Jackson loves books, and books love Peter Jackson. The Oscar-winning director has already put his signature stamp on the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Lovely Bones," and in addition to his upcoming producer work on "The Hobbit," it appears that Jackson is bringing yet another novel series to the big screen.
The Dominion Post has heard that Jackson's Weta Workshops is quietly adapting Philip Reeve's "Mortal Engines" science fiction novels for the big screen. While no official announcement has been made just yet, a spokesman for Jackson didn't deny the project and said that "any comment should come from Peter."
Jackson, of course, has no comment at this time, so we should consider this a rumor until we've heard more.
Still, the world of "Mortal Engines" is a perfect match for Jackson's unique vision. The novel series takes place in a post-apocalyptic steampunk setting where cities …

What Would Have Been Next For Brittany Murphy In Hollywood
14 hours ago
From MTV.Com: From the quotable "Clueless" to the hard-bitten "8 Mile," Brittany Murphy has left behind a legacy of remarkable onscreen roles. But before her sudden death on Sunday, the 32-year-old actress also completed work on several films and was getting set to begin another in January. Not much is known about these low-profile projects, so MTV News got in touch with various producers and reps connected to the films to figure out their status and when audiences might have the chance to see the actress at work in the future.
Before her passing, Murphy completed work on this psychological thriller in which she plays a woman with a history of psychiatric issues who accompanies her boyfriend (Dean Cain) to the hospital for surgery, only to have him disappear without a trace. Hospital staff claim to have no record of him on file and suggest the entire scenario is …

'Fringe' Goes Back To Season One For 'Unearthed,' A Never-Before-Seen Episode
15 hours ago
"Fringe" is a show that's built entirely on the idea of opposing alternate realities, and that central premise is about to leak over into our realm of reality.
According to Sci Fi Wire, Fox has decided to air an episode of "Fringe" titled "Unearthed" on Monday, January 11th, in an effort to combat NBC's "Heroes" return. The catch? "Unearthed," while a new episode for viewers, is hardly a new episode for the "Fringe" cast and crew — it was originally filmed as a season one episode.
"Rumors had floated around that there was a missing ['Fringe'] episode that had been filmed in season one but had never aired. Well, those rumors are true," reports Sci Fi Wire. "There's no explanation from Fox as to why the episode was never aired, although their theory is 'Is it from an alternate universe?'"
Fox is probably just playing coy, but let's take a minute …

Kurt Loder Picks His Best Movies Of 2009
From MTV.Com: It seems to be a critical tradition to bewail the awfulness of each year's movies. But how often is this really true? With the annual caveat that it's impossible (and meaningless) to designate one movie or filmmaker as the "best," here are a number of 2009 pictures I liked a lot in various aspects, with one entrant in each category selected, fairly arbitrarily, as the "best," and equally worthy contenders noted below them.
Best Picture:
"Up in the Air" A mainstream film with a complex heart and a brain, too. Not exactly a comedy, not precisely a drama, but as close to a perfect movie as any other this year.

Neil Gaiman Discovers A Zombie In Today's Daily TwitPic
17 hours ago
Of course Neil Gaiman discovered a zombie. Who would you expect to find such a thing? This is the guy behind such freaky works as the "Sandman" comic book series, "NeverWhere," "Coraline," "MirrorMask" and more. You've gotta figure he already walks through his day seeing crazy s--t wherever he looks.
The only difference is that today he has photographic proof! Gaiman was out walking his dog the other day when he snapped a random picture of it in the snow, which he tweeted with the text "Walking the semi-invisible dog," as if he didn't notice the human hand protruding from the ground. Roughly 10 minutes later he re-tweeted the pic with the text "What hand...? Oh. That hand. I didn't notice." That's what happens when you make a living crafting rich, engrossing fantasy worlds. Hit the jump for some undead action in today's Daily TwitPic.

Brittany Murphy, East Coast Snow And A Zombie Hand In Today's Twitter-Wood
21 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST
This has been a bad holiday season for untimely deaths around Hollywood, and none have been more unexpected than actress Brittany Murphy's on Sunday. Alyssa Milano, Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton and virtually everyone else with a Twitter account associated with the entertainment industry has something to say about Murphy, and there's a rundown below.
The other big nationwide news of the past weekend has been the massive snowstorm pounding the East Coast. "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos was one of those who had her travel plans derailed by the frozen precipitation dump, on Washington, D.C. You can find those posts after jump along with Fred Durst's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" clan name and Neil Gaiman's undead lawn ornament. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for December 21, 2009. (Editor's note: You'll see some crossover between this post and our earlier Brittany Murphy tweet round-up. That's okay... this is a …

Considering Life After 'Avatar' With Director James Cameron
21 December 2009 3:00 PM, PST
It's no secret that director James Cameron has been working for years to bring "Avatar" to the big screen. But now that it's in theaters, what can we expect from him next? There was a 13 year gap between "Titanic" and "Avatar," a period during which Cameron kept busy as a producer and documentary filmmaker but steered clear of the director's chair.
Like any true artist, however, his mind was always in motion. Cameron's got plans within plans, built on top of plans and ready to spawn new plans. There are a lot of ideas, a lot of potential projects that he could pursue next. And as much as he tries to avoid talking about what's to come when what's new and fresh is still on the table, he was kind enough before the release of "Avatar" to sit down and guide MTV's Josh Horowitz through some of what he's got cooking for the coming years. …
