Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever Trailer #1
I was not a fan of Cabin Fever, but I got a lot more interested in the sequel after seeing House of the Devil, which was directed by Cabin Fever 2's helmer Ti West. I can see why some people didn't like House of the Devil -- it's slow and moody more than anything else -- but I can't agree with them. Though I'm not as head over heels for the movie as Hunter was, I loved the atmosphere and aesthetic West managed to create. Some of the same touches look to be on display in this first trailer for his Cabin Fever sequel. Check it out after the break. If you thought that House of the Devil didn't have enough gore and action, Spring Fever looks like it might be the movie for you. This trailer sets up the basic situation quickly: the infected water that caused problems in »

/Film has been named one of the "100 Essential Websites" of 2009 by The Guardian, one of the UK's top daily newspapers. /Film is one of only four movie related websites to make the list, alongside IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and the AOL-run movie blog Cinematical. The Guardian lists /Film as a website "to see before heading for the latest blockbuster at your local multiplex." The publication also made note of Brendon Connelly's weekly UK news update /Film UK. Here is what they said: /Film: Said to be the favourite film blog of directors Jason Reitman and Darren Aronofsky, /Film features news, reviews, interviews and a special UK update each Friday. How cool is that? Photos and Video From Toy Story 3 Scoring Session
5 hours ago
Director Lee Unkrich, one of my favorite filmmakers to follow on Twitter, has been pretty mum on the production of Toy Story 3, at least when it comes to what is going on behind the scenes at Pixar Animation Studios. But today he has been very vocal about the post production process of the latest Toy Story sequel, and more specifically the film's musical score. Unkrich live-tweeted updates from the recording, complete with photos and video. I've included highlights after the jump. It was interesting to get a glimpse inside this process. I can't wait until we get a movie studio which allows its director to live tweet photos and video from a set of a major motion picture. It's bound to happen eventually. Tweets: Today's a big day in the life of Toy Story 3. Today we begin scoring with a full orchestra. Orchestra's warming up. Randy Newman just arrived. »

Tron Legacy: New Image and Poster
We were just sent along what looks to be the first official still and poster for Disney's upcoming Tron Legacy. Check them out, and read the official synopsis, after the break. HeyUGuys in the UK got these images from Disney, but the poster is the domestic Us one. They don't show off too much, but the poster design is great, and very much in line with the Comic Con teaser clip. I like the austerity here; if this is what we can expect to see, I'm really happy. The original film had a fairly sparse look, and despite the fact that the Comic Con teaser was fairly restrained I've been slightly afraid that in the new film the digital world would be too cluttered. Doesn't look like it based on this. If you're hungry for more, keep in mind that the new video game will be debuted with a bunch »

James Cameron Developing Futuristic Sci-Fi Action Film
7 hours ago
Production Weekly is reporting that "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an 'event' film set in the future." No other details are available, but most people think the project might be Doomsday Protocol, a film which was announced last year. James Cameron wasn't mentioned in the initial The Hollywood Reporter announcement, which included the following plot details: "Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be an epic science fiction adventure in the vein of The Seven Samurai involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth." In June 2009, it was mentioned in Variety that Salerno was developing a project for Cameron, but no one connected the dots. Shane Salerno, whose credits include Avpr: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem, Ghost Rider, Shaft and Armageddon, crafted the screenplay on spec, »

Casting Notes: Jonah Hex Reshoots; Sandler and Aniston in Love; Rashida Jones in The Social Network; Andy Daly in Yogi Bear
9 hours ago
Two weeks of reshoots and/or additional shooting will take place for Jonah Hex at the beginning of the year, and a set of casting call notes has gone out describing the characters involved. There are a few significant ones: Jeb Turnbull, son of John Malkovich's primary villain, and Cassie, Hex's wife. Casting these characters implies that a couple of sequences will be shot that are flashbacks to Hex's past. Cassie is mentioned but not seen in earlier drafts of the script. One draft I read had an extensive flashback featuring Jeb Turnbull, with a couple of big scenes, so the quick either/or supposition is that either that sequence wasn't shot, or was extensively changed at the time and is now being reworked again. The former seems more likely. President Andrew Johnson is also being cast. That flashback was set in 1862, too early for him to be President »

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Movie Trailer
When I first heard about Jon Turtletaub's Sorcerer's Apprentice movie, I didn't really know what to expect. My first exposure to the property was in Disney's Fantasia adaptation of the musical poem by Paul Dukas (itself an adaptation of the poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) about a sorcerer who brings a broom to life to help him carry water, but finds himself unable to control the consequences. I was a huge fan of the way the animation creatively dramatized the poem, all while incorporating Disney's most popular icon, Mickey Mouse. We now have a trailer for The Sorcerer's Apprentice and what I can definitively say is that this is not what I expected. Watch the trailer in glorious HD over at Apple, or see an embedded version below. Let us know what you think in the comments. Some initial thoughts: Based on the trailer, this film seems to expands »

Soderbergh’s Spalding Gray Documentary, And Everything Is Going Fine, to Premiere at Slamdance 2010
15 hours ago
Slamdance 2010 (the other Park City, Ut film fest) is where you'll want to be to catch the world premiere of Steven Soderbergh's upcoming documentary, And Everything Is Going Fine. The doc concerns the life and work of Spalding Gray, who made a career as a writer, actor, and monologist. Gray and Soderbergh worked together previously on the 1996 film, Gray's Anatomy, as well as 1993's King of the Hill . While at Slamdance, Soderbergh will also take part in the Filmmaker's Summit, which will gather filmmakers to "collectively craft a new charter for storytelling and content distribution, with and by the global filmmaking community, that can succeed by using new technology." Slamdance co-founder Peter Baxter is unsurprisingly glad to have Soderbergh involved with the festival once again: Steven Soderbergh represents the spirit of Slamdance. This year, he's fully immersed himself within our community in support of the indie filmmaker by debuting »

Votd: Batman is Confused - Plot Holes of The Dark Knight

Batman's beginning to wonder if his movie makes any sense at all. In music video form, the eighth video in the Key of Awesome series takes aim at the plot holes of The Dark Knight. Of course, if you've been in a hole somewhere and still haven't seen Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins sequel, be aware this is spoiler filled. Gears of War Movie to Be an Origin Story? Possibly Taking Place on Emergence Day
17 hours ago
"Emergence Day" should be a term familiar to Gears of Wars fans already, and it looks like movie fans may become very familiar with it. The term refers to that day that the series' subterranean villains, the Locusts, started to wage war against humanity. Making Of recently spoke with producer Wyck Godfrey, who spilled some details on their current plans for the Len Wiseman-directed Gears film. Apparently, they're currently trying to decide if the movie should take place in the time period of the games---in a war-torn post-Emergence Day world---or, if they should start off earlier and depict a peaceful time that's shattered by the events of Emergence Day. Godfrey's full quote, after the break. The hard part is how to make it into something that doesn’t feel like a world torn asunder and people just in battle. I think we really want to focus on the idea »

The Road Screenwriter to Adapt Butcher’s Crossing for Sam Mendes
19 hours ago
Joe Penhall has been hired by Focus Features to adapt the John Williams' 1960 Western novel Butcher's Crossing, which Sam Mendes might direct. The New York Times called the book "the first and best revisionist western" and "harsh and relentless yet muted in tone," noting that "Butcher's Crossing paved the way for Cormac McCarthy." Penhall is notable for writing the screenplay adaptation for Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road, as well as Some Voices and Enduring Love. Here is the plot information from the original novel: In his National Book Award–winning novel Augustus, John Williams uncovered the secrets of ancient Rome. With Butcher’s Crossing, his fiercely intelligent, beautifully written western, Williams dismantles the myths of modern America. It is the 1870s, and Will Andrews, ?red up by Emerson to seek “an original relation to nature,” drops out of Harvard and heads west. He washes up in Butcher’s Crossing, »

Josh Brolin in… Men in Black 3?!
We learned that Columbia was finally moving forward with a third Men in Black movie back in April, but at the time there was no script attached to the project, and it just seemed like one of those way off things. In October we learned that Tropic Thunder/Idiocracy screenwriter Etan Cohen had been brought on board to carve out a script. Columbia must have a draft in hand, because they're already beginning the casting process. According to the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Blog, Josh Brolin (W., No Country For Old Men) is in consideration for a lead role in the third film. It is unclear if Brolin would play a new single-monikered government agent or Tommy Lee Jones' character Agent K, as a young man. Lets hope that Brolin isn't playing the typical role of an original young upstart that J or K must then train. There's »

Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks Gets A New Title; First Trailer This Christmas
20 hours ago
Kevin Smith's buddy cop comedy A Couple of Dicks finally has a new title. As you probably know by now, since the start, Warner Bros has been pushing to re-title the film so that they could more easily market the film in all areas. The working title for the film was A Couple of Cops, which I personally thought was horribly uncreative, and completely lacking of the double entendre that made the original title so interesting and funny. So what is the new title? Well... we just don't know what it is yet. Here is the announcement from Kevin Smith: The Movie Formerly Known as A Couple Of Dicks has finally settled on a (network-policy-dictated) replacement title! While we'll always have Dicks in our hearts, the title we just now locked makes me smile on a bunch of different levels - including this 1: we can now advertise »

The Wolfman Gets Bloody R-Rating
After numerous delays, reshoots, editing changes after multiple test screenings, and of course - Danny Elfman's infamous departure, I wasn't sure The Wolfman would actually be completed for the planned February 12th 2010 release. Well, it appears that a final cut is in hand. Universal just informed me that The Wolfman has finally received a rating from the MPAA, and has been rated 'R' for "bloody horror, violence and gore." I've never recieved an e-mail from a studio publicist bragging about a film's MPAA rating before, nevermind a bloody R-rating. I would assume that Universal wants everyone to know that they have decided to go with the longer, bloodier, more violent (and from what I've heard, better) cut of the film. If Universal is happy with the film, I would expect them to start screening it to the public pretty soon, possibly even this week, to spark word of mouth interest. »
