Haley Krueger Used to Promote Original Nightmare DVDs
9 hours ago
Insanity. New Line is taking the opportunity to re-release the eight films in their wildly successful Nightmare on Elm Street franchise in a new DVD box set that's arriving on April 6. That's to be expected with the Platinum Dunes-produced A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot coming along on April 30. New Line hasn't packaged all of the films together as a set since they released that black-boxed, beautiful special edition collection in '99. (Since then the films have been paired up, two or four films per disc.) But here's the beef we have: New Line is clearly using the new Jackie Earle Haley Freddy Krueger on their box art, as seen below. Say what you will about the reboot - whether you love the idea or hate it - Englund should be represented on this DVD. Shame, shame... »

James Franco Topline's Boyle's 127 Days
It's questionable if you'd consider the following a "horror" film per se, but it's director Danny Boyle and it's based upon the truly horrific real-life story of mountaineer Aron Ralston, plus we did cover the announcement previously. James Franco will star in Danny Boyle's 127 Days for Fox Searchlight according to Variety. The true-life story centers on Ralston (Franco), who spent five days with his right forearm pinned under a boulder during a climb in May 2003. He used a dull knife to amputate the limb, then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before flagging a family that gave him water and food. Boyle will direct 127 Hours from a script by Simon Beaufoy with shooting set to begin in March in Utah for a late 2010 release. Christian Colson (Boyle's »

Dee Snider's Strangeland 2 Rolling Soon?
6 January 2010
An interesting article surfaced out of an Ohio broadcast news bureau concerning the status of Dee Snider's Strangeland 2: Disciple . According to News Net 5, the sequel is one of three projects approved to shoot in the state using Ohio's Film Tax Credit. Nehst Studios, based out of Cleveland, is overseeing the production. Pre-production has to begin within 90 days to take advantage of the tax credit. This is the most we've heard about Strangeland 2 (subtitled Disciple ) in some time. Snider has talked about it for the last decade, but nothing has ever come to fruition. When it was released in 1998 by Artisan, Strangeland found Snider playing a killer named Captain Howdy who used the internet to lure victims into his various traps. Imagine what Howdy can do today »
Alan Ball Talks True Blood Season Three
6 January 2010
The Buzzy Multimedia blog posted a good interview with Alan Ball, the series creator behind HBO's hit show True Blood . In the chat, he mentions that he's just signed a deal to be showrunner through it's fourth season, meaning we've got at the very least two more season's of True Blood coming for sure. While the show deviates from some of the source material, primarily when it comes to secondary characters (since the original Charlaine Harris books are all from Sookie's point of view), Ball says, "I think we.re always going to use the books as sort of a foundation, but I just don.t see how, as time goes on, you can.t diverge from them a little bit more each season. I don.t know, though. We.re starting to work on Season Three and we actually are really, really sticking to »
Penance Clip: The Most Brutal Scene Ever?
6 January 2010
Days of Darkness director Jake Kennedy's latest endeavor Penance is now available on DVD and he was kind (?!) enough to pass along what's being touted as "the most outrageously brutal scene in movie history." Is it? Judge for yourself by clicking on the player below and watch leading man Graham McTavish perform a bit of self mutilation that would make Ellen Page in Hard Candy grin. Marieh Delfino ( Jeepers Creepers 2 ) and Eve Mauro ( Wicked Lake ) also star. They play a pair of strippers who get invited to a private party unaware that it's presided over by a maniac (McTavish). The clip tells you how and where you can obtain Penance , so hang in there. »

What other movies caught his fancy this past year? Check out the list for yourself over at EW's site right here . »

Dual Metamorphosis for The Wolfman
6 January 2010
Update: Our Universal reps have informed us that The Playlist has been misinformed and this is all untrue. When reports came in that some last-minute tinkering was being done to The Wolfman with editors Walter Murch and Mark Goldblatt (look 'em up, they're pros), I shrugged it off. It's news, perhaps, in the names being involved - but continued editing is nothing new in production. Today, however, a slice of information came along that had me raise an eyebrow. Nearly a month out from release, The Playlist has learned director Joe Johnston is back in the editing room working on his cut. Simultaneously, Universal production head Donna Langely is in a separate editing room, with an unnamed editor, doing another cut. Test screenings here in L.A. have yielded a mixed »

Hollywood Wants to Ride With Darksiders ?
6 January 2010
This has horror potential. After all, it's set during the apocalypse. It seems the upcoming video game Darksiders is exploring its options in other mediums. Vigil's Joe Madureira (creative director, comic book vet) told VG247: "We've gotten some interest from Hollywood, we've talked about doing a comic series. At least a couple of those things have to happen, I'm sure." A comic book seems more realistic. A film? That might be a big undertaking. You see, the game is set in the wake of the apocalypse. You play one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse - War - who traverses across a scorched earth. So this tale sounds rather expensive to pull off. Darksiders hit stores yesterday. »
