Bad Lashes voted off 'X Factor'

Bad Lashes have become the first act to be eliminated from The X Factor tonight. The four-piece girl group found themselves in the bottom two alongside Girlband following the first public vote of the series. Both bands had been mentored by Louis Walsh. In a new twist for the results show, the two acts went on to perform a new song they had hand-picked in the event of failing to impress the public. While Girlband chose to belt out a rendition of the classic hit 'That's What Friends Are For', Bad Lashes picked 'Wonderwall' after previously impressing Walsh with their performance of the track at the Judges' Houses stage. 2.3m interested in 'American Future'

Simon Schama's new BBC Two series got off to a decent start in the ratings last night (Friday). The American Future: A History, By Simon Schama - a four-part documentary tracing the history of important political issues in the States - drew 2.27m (10.5%) in the 9pm hour, up 300,000 on the finale of The Tudors in the same slot last week. ITV1's Wire In The Blood regained the lead in the slot, with an average of 4.69m (21.6%) for the hour. On BBC One, Harry & Paul ended its run with 3.66m (16.8%). Over its six weeks the comedy has averaged 3.37m (15.5%), down around a quarter on the slot average. The second episode of Little Britain USA followed at 9.30pm with 4.23m (19.5%), down 400,000 on last week's opener. Channel 4's Ugly Betty drew 1.4m (6.5%) and was beaten by Five's NCIS, with 1.52m (7%). (more)

Courteeners furious over Radio 1 snub

The Courteeners frontman Liam Fray has blasted Radio 1 chiefs for refusing to play the band's songs. Alan Sugar admits landing mistake

A Welsh 999 operator has told how she organised an ambulance for a pregnant woman who was 5,000 miles away in the United States. 'Natural Born Sellers' tanks for ITV

ITV1 has a ratings disaster on its hands with a new business-based reality show. Natural Born Sellers, an Apprentice-style contest in which aspiring businessmen and women undertake weekly sales tasks, began last week with 1.71m (7.8%). This week the audience dropped to 1.58m (7%), down around 57% on the average audience for the slot. Silent Witness was the clear winner in the 9pm hour, pulling in 6.25m (27.8%) for BBC One.
