Cage's Cockroach Fear

27 August 2008 9:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Nicolas Cage still shudders thinking about his 1989 movie Vampire's Kiss - because his role required him to eat a cockroach.

Cage admits he has an irrational phobia of insects - but in the film's most infamous scene, his character Peter catches the critter and pops it in his mouth.

And the star insists he still feels nauseous recalling the daring feat.

He says, "To this day, people ask me about the cockroach - it was disgusting. "I have a fear of bugs and I had to disinfect my mouth with 100-proof vodka and just spit the bug out.

"It makes me sick thinking about it and, in the theatre, it was the same reaction: 'Oh no!' I know the reason it is still in video stores is partly because of that."

Virgin Comics Shuts Down New York Office

British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson's comic book venture is reportedly moving to Los Angeles in a bid to boost its appeal.

Branson's Virgin Comics - a venture between his Virgin Group and Indian comics publisher Gotham Entertainment Group - has closed its New York office after disappointing sales.

Virgin Comics CEO Sharad Devarajan says the company hopes to restructure the business at a Los Angeles base.

Devarajan adds, "We remain excited about the business and partnerships we have built through Virgin Comics and are working toward a restructuring that properly takes the business forward."

The company hopes to attract stars closer to Hollywood and has reportedly negotiated deals with former porn star Jenna Jameson, actors Ed Burns and Nicolas Cage, and filmmaker Guy Ritchie to develop comic books that can be turned into films and TV shows.

Cage Filmed Through Military Coup

27 August 2008 5:07 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Nicolas Cage feared for his safety while shooting new movie Bangkok Dangerous after the Thai military suddenly overthrew the government.

The actor, 44, was in Thailand in 2006 filming the action flick when violence erupted as the military threw out prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his government.

He recalls, "I was on the set around one in the morning, firing an automatic weapon, when the gun wrangler said, 'You've got to stop shooting. There's a military coup about to happen.'

"I didn't even know what that meant. When was the last time we had a military coup in the U.S.?

"I kept thinking my son and my wife were at the hotel. So I walked off the set, woke them up and I took them to the airport."

But the star was determined to carry on with the project - despite the threat of violence on the streets.

He adds: "I left my family at the airport, got back to Bangkok on another plane, flew back to the set - not knowing if I was going back into gunfire or tanks shooting - and finished the movie.

"There were tanks on the street. It was a terrifying experience."

While no announcement has been made about which character Bell will be playing, Zap2It reports that she will be joining other cast members such as Nicolas Cage, Scarlett Johansson, Donald Sutherland, Billy Nighly, Nathan Lane and Eugene Levy in the film, which is set to be released next year.

Nicholas Cage gears up to ‘Kick-Ass’

22 August 2008 7:15 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Nicholas Cage is the latest to join the cast of “Kick-Ass,” Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar’s violent comic book, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Aaron Johnson and Lyndsy Fonseca also boarded the project.

The story centers on a boring high school student (Johnson) who attempts to become a real-life superhero named Kick-Ass but runs into several troubles because of his poor physique. Cage stars as an ex-cop who struggles to bring down a local druglord.

Also on board is “Superbad” star Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who plays the aggressive son of a mobster who tries to uncover Kick-Ass’ identity.

Most of the major studios refused to develop the project because of the comic’s excessive violence, which is why Vaughn raised the budget for the flick himself.

Vaughn previously directed “Layer Cake” and “Stardust.” Cage most recently starred in “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.” He will next be

Nicolas Cage's new action film, Bangkok Dangerous will not be screening for critics. Lionsgate have spread the word that there will be no plans to show the movie to the press in advance of its 5th September release date. Does this mean that it sucks? Probably. But how many shitty Nicolas Cage films are there that are actually awesome? You never know with him. I like to think that he's just too far ahead of his time. We won't truly appreciate Ghost Rider or The Wicker Man or Next or National...

Last week we announced that Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin) and Chloe Moretz had joined Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book Kick-Ass. Today we finish off the primary cast with three more names, only one of which you'll recognize. Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, and Lyndsy Fonseca have all been cast in Kick-Ass, which is scheduled to start shooting this fall in London and Toronto. Cage plays a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has a daughter, played by the aforementioned Moretz, who has been trained to kick ass with a ninja sword. Fonseca will play the female infatuation and Johnson will play the main character, a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski. We all know who Nic Cage is, but that's not the actor I care the most about this time. I'm interested more in Aaron Johnson, who plays the lead character. Johnson

Nicolas Cage Will 'Kick-Ass' for Matthew Vaughn

22 August 2008 12:43 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Say what you want about Nic Cage, the guy still gets some pretty high-profile gigs. Even after Wicker Man.

Case in point: The Hollywood Reporter says that Cage has joined the cast of director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Kick-Ass, the uber-violent Mark Millar comic.

Earlier in the week, it was revealed that McLovin would also be in the cast. Today, we're also learning that British kid actor Aaron Johnson will play the lead role in Kick-Ass, a high school nerd named Dave who wants to become a superhero despite his obvious lack of the requisite abilities and powers. Lyndsy Fonseca, who you may know as the daughter from How I Met Your Mother, will play Dave's love interest.

As for Cage, he'll play "a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (11-year-old Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon."

Alex Proyas is set to direct the big-screen adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's sci-fi novel "The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag" for Phoenix Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Phoenix execs call the project a "complex psychological thriller with plenty of action as well as some love interest."

The book, originally published in 1942, focuses on a man who has no memories of his daily activities. To uncover the mystery and find out what he spends his time doing, he hires a pair of detectives, who eventually stumble across series of secrets no one could ever have imagined.

Proyas wrote the screenplay himself and will likely head into pre-production for the flick once he is done with the Nicolas Cage vehicle "Knowing," which opens March 20, 2009.

This is not the first Heinlein novel to make the transition to the big screen. His "Starship Troopers" debuted in theaters in 1997 and became a worldwide hit.
